External debt in Pakistan has grown significantly since 2013 due to insufficient foreign direct investment and exports, which has increased the debt burden. The external debt increased over 50% from $60.9 billion in 2013 to $91.8 billion in recent years due to imprudent government policies that failed to attract non-debt creating inflows. This mounting external debt is taking a heavy toll on the national exchequer through increased debt servicing costs.
