This is a trend that keeps com-
ing back around, perhaps due
to the flirty and fun nature of
it. Lace and silk are sumptuous
and feminine fabrics and are
key to this trend. Slip dresses
and camisoles are also in style.
The main rule is: the more ris-
que the better.
High necklines, frills, lace
and ruffles are key to execute
this trend. It’s perfect for an
everyday look, or to wear in the
evening. Avoid making this look
too wintery by choosing neutral
and pastel shades such as nude,
beige, white and pale pink.
This is a trend that has been
around for a while, and it’s not
going away anytime soon.
Channel 70’s boho chic by wear-
ing suede and fringing, delve
even deeper into the 70’s by
wearing patchwork suede.
Who said denim had to be
boring? It’s definitely far from
dull this season, forget the
notion that denim only has a
place with jeans and jackets and
embrace slouchy and structured
denim dresses and midi skirts.
Underwear as Outerwear
We’ve selected a few pieces that
reflect the spring/summer trends
this year. Many of these trends
were seen on the runways at
London and New York fashion
week, and now they have made
their way to WestQuay. Take a
look if you want to snag designer
style on a budget.
A lot of bold patterns were seen
on the runways this year, with
stripes being the main focus.
Don’t be scared to venture into
the world of print, it’s a simple
and stylish way to add interest
to any outfit.

This look could be styled in
many ways however, you could
amp up the femininity by
pairing these looks with dainty
flats or delicate lace up heels
and floral trousers. Or you
could toughen this look up with
leather trousers, or biker jacket
and a choker.
This style can be made to
look less frou-frou by adding
leather accents such as a skirt
or heels, or give another nod
to the Victorian era by adding
rich jewel toned pendants and
pearls.
This style would go perfectly
with long brown boots and
a crisp white shirt for an
effortlessly cool daytime look.
Or wear it with animal print,
chunky heels and statement
jewellery for a 70’s night time
alternative.
Prints as bold as this don’t need
that much styling, however
you could go neutral with nude
shades to down play the print or
a pop of colour such as bright
yellow or deep pink to add
another level to this look.
Chunky heels or boots can
work for a more formal look
while colourful accessories will
make this outfit pop. Flat shoes
with unusual details are a fun
alternative trainers.

Clothing that is functional
and appropriate is
important in our everyday
lives and a jumpsuit is the
ultimate staple piece for
summer 2016. From doing
the school run to going
for dinner, it is the perfect
item that will take you
from day to night. M&S
have a large range on offer
to suit and flatter all shapes
for incredibly affordable
prices.
However if you don’t think
a jumpsuit is for you, then
other items such as a shirt-
dress are ideal. The loose
flowing fabric compliments
all figures while keeping
you cool and elegant in
the warmer weather. Pair
it with flat sandals and a
large tote for day-to-day
or a clutch and wedges
for the evening – summer
dressing has never been so
easy.

Palazzo pants and wide leg
jeans are back on trend,
suitable for those not
yet prepared to get their
legs out. Bold patterned
trousers are a fabulous way
to inject some colour and
flair into any wardrobe
and can be teamed with
a range of jersey tops or
cool knits which M&S sell
in abundance. Jeans will
never go out of fashion,
but this summer try a high
waisted pair that will hide
any indulgences of ice
cream and Prosecco.
The British summer
weather can be precarious,
so jackets and cover-
ups are essential. A
sophisticated trench coat
will protect from any
rain while still allowing
you to remain cool and
stylish. An alternative to a
leather jacket would be a
lightweight suede jacket;
it is versatile and can be
thrown over any outfit.
Summer dressing can now be stress free with the
help of M&S and the extensive array of clothing
they have to offer. It is affordable, on trend and
most crucially comfortable – what’s not to love?

Swimwear
This is for the women who are
generally bigger on the bottom with
a smaller bust. If you’re looking to
avert the attention from your hips,
then go for styles that offer prints
and colour; two attributes that are
great for the summer season. Balance
your body shape by wearing brighter
tones on top and darker ones on the
bottom. Vintage styles look great on
this body shape; high-waisted briefs
offer sliming panels down either
side. River Island’s swimwear range
provides pieces suited for the pear
shape in a range of tropical prints and
as an addedbonus, you don’t have
to purchase as a set, so mixing and
matching tones is easy! Celebrities
that are synonymous with the pear
shaped curves include Jennifer
Lopez, Beyoncé and Kelly Clarkson.
As the summer season
approaches we all begin to
switch our soups for salads
and fret about whether
we’re bikini ready or not.
If you’re lucky enough to
leave the country for your
holiday this year, or the
British campsite is calling
you r name for a weekend
away, then don’t let the
fear of stepping into a
swimsuit get you down.
Whether you’re in your
twenties or fifties, high
street fashion is able to
cater to all your swimsuit
needs. If you know your
body shape then narrowing
down a swimwear style that
accentuates your best bits is
easier than you’d think.

Pear Shape
Rectangle
This narrow shape is for women who
have an athletic body type. If the
goal is to add the illusion of curves
when shopping for your swimwear,
then steer towards styles with detail
and added attention on both the
top and the bottom. Frills, ruching
and beading give the implication of
a wider shape in the desired area.
Alternatively, monokinis are great
for making it appear as though you
have more of a waist, and these
are brilliant for adding glamour to
any party holidays. If you’re after a
monokini, head over to Victoria’s
Secret. But, if you’d prefer a two-
piece or a swimsuit that covers all
areas, then Next’s range is filled with
the extra details that are perfect for
your shape. For style inspiration,
look to celebrities like Cameron
Diaz, Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth
Paltrow.

with hourglass figures, such as
Scarlett Johansson, Kelly Brooks
and Dita von Teese.
FASHION
Weddings
The apple shape figure means you have more
weight on the torso, with slim arms and legs.
There are many types of swimwear that the
apple shape can chose, but arguably the most
flattering is the sculpting suit. Accentuating your
chest and making the rest of your figure appear
slimmer, this is a swimsuit that smoothes the
stomach. Marks and Spencer’s offer a range of
these types of swimsuits for you to choose from.
Similar to the pear shape, vintage styles suit this
figure. High-waisted bottoms with ties or cut outs
add curves and help to balance your shape. For
celebrity swimsuit style, look to Jennifer Hudson,
Liz Hurley and Oprah Winfrey.
The curviest shape of them all,
this is for women who are both
top and bottom-heavy but have
a small waist. Colour blocking
will draw attention to your curves
and it’s best to invest in a bikini
that can provide support, so look
for styles with thicker straps and
an underwire. Monokinis can
make an hour glass figure look
cartoon-like, so go for swimwear
lines that allow you to mix and
match styles. Boux Avenue

Not even a bridezilla will get upset over a cream
clutch and matching hat. This is the perfect colour
to accessorise with a patterned dress and you’ll be
sure to refrain from upsetting the happy couple.
A range of satin and embellished bags in cream,
gold and white are all available to polish off your
look, while adding a Great Gatsby element. Be sure
not to over accessorise your outfit by saving the best
for last; the jewellery. If you’ve decided to opt for
a headpiece then choose between either earrings,
a bracelet or necklace, never all four. Wearing too
many items can lead them to detract from
each other.
Moreover, a busy ensemble will result in each piece
being overshadowed, so keep in mind the aged old
tip; less is more. Accessorize’s jewellery section is a
feast for the eyes; statement necklaces can be pared
with subtle bracelets and vice versa. Packs of thin
rings compliment graceful chains that are available
in both silver and gold. This season dust off your
beloved dress and treat it to a few embellishments.
As the name suggests, Accessorize really is a
professional in this department. They have a variety
of colours to suit all skin types, show-stopping
jewellery and bags that will make you the envy of all
your friends, and they are just waiting to be picked
up. Start the season in style and fall in love with
your old favourites.
TheWeddingGuestGuide
Finding multiple outfits for these occasions might
prove a struggle but accessories are a great way to
make an old dress look new again. There are a few
rules and regulations that every guest must follow
when attending someone else’s big day. Most brides
won’t let you through the door if you’re wearing
white and it’s usually distasteful to flash a lot of flesh,
(especially at a church wedding).
However this day is all about celebrating love and
matrimony so let Accessorize help you to look your
best as you partake in making memories that will
last forever. Accessorize’s spring/summer range is
elegant and delicate, enabling you to add the perfect
finish to any outfit.
If you didn’t rush off to buy a hat as soon as you
heard the good news, then think about a fascinator.
Designed in an array of styles there’s a look for
everyone. Find your fascinator first and let the rest of
youraccessorising follow suit.
If you’re a mother of the bride or groom, then let
corals and pastels compliment your outfit. Taupe
headbands adorned with feathers or mesh will add
a subtle touch, allowing a necklace to carry all the
emphasis. If your dress is making the statement, then
flatter it with a simple jewelled or flowered hairgrip.
As mentioned wearing white is usually a no-go,
although find a loop hole in your accessories.
As summer starts,
wedding bells can
be heard all over the
country. As it’s the most
popular season to tie the
knot, you may have been
lucky enough to receive
more than one invite.

Jeans will always be in fashion, but this season’s denim is ripped, patched,

Summer Skin

Facial cleanser/toner:
If you have a garden party or a
summer wedding to go to, you
may want to have a full face of
makeup on. But, this doesn’t mean
you have to stay in the shade all
day protecting your face. Try using
the Estée Lauder Double Wear
Stay-in-Place Foundation with
SPF10. Although SPF 10 may not
seem much, as long as you apply
an SPF moisturiser too, your skin
will be protected. This foundation
is wonderfully lightweight and not
at all cakey. This is great for hot
weather, as it will not feel like it is
running off your face. This means
flawless coverage and protection at
its finest.
To ensure your makeup stays in place
all day, it is always a good idea to apply
powder. It is also a nice idea to apply
pressed powder instead of foundation,
to even skin tone without using heavy
products. Marks & Spencer sell the Pure
Minerals 4-in-1 Pressed Powder for only
£24. This powder is clinically proven
to correct and prevent skin concerns.
Not only this, it also smooth’s away fine
lines and wrinkles, plumps and firms the
skin’s appearance, and balances uneven
skin tone. It is a great way to look
fabulous in the sun with ease. To keep in
line with the summer theme, this product
also has SPF 15 – what could be better?
Use a foundation with SPF:
Powder:
BEAUTY
Moisturiser:
After cleansing and toning, it is vital
to apply a moisturiser. This will
ensure your skin is super soft and
glowing all day. Applying sun-cream
to your face is a great idea, unless you
want to apply makeup – the oily base
will not bode well with foundation. It
is a good idea to apply a moisturiser
that has SPF in it instead. The Body
Shop’sVitamin C Daily Moisturiser
has an SPF of 30! This will make a
great base for your makeup whilst
protecting your skin at the same time.
This is an important part of your
skincare routine all year round, but
the summer comes with different
skin dilemmas. While the harsh cold
winters can dry out your skin, the
warm sun can make it tight and sore,
especially if you have got a bit of
sunburn. Using a gentle facewash and
toner will help repair the skin –along
with plenty of after-sun. We suggest
using The Body Shop’s Pomegranate
Softening Facial Wash and the
Pomegranate Invigorating Toner. The
gentle formula will clean and soothe
your skin without being too harsh.
For only £12 each, it’s a cheap way
to ensure your skin can be in its best
condition.

afraid to try out
new looks and
have fun with it.
She reminded me
that if I mess up
my eyeliner, apply
too much blush
or wear too bright a lipstick, that it
will all come out in the wash.”
However, she has an issue with
her teenage self using only wipes to
take off makeup.
“If only I’d been able to rip those
pesky makeup wipes from my
teenage hands! I wish I had been able
to tell myself that a wipe, no different
to a baby wipe, will not clean my skin
properly, let alone get rid of all the
foundation I was wearing to cover my
spots. It was a vicious cycle, I wasn’t
cleaning my skin, the spots were
forming, then I was applying more
makeup to hide them and expecting
a face wipe to solve it all! No, I wish
I could just reach back in time and
hand myself a good cream cleanser, it
would have saved a lot of hassle and
boosted my self esteem hugely!”
Hydration and acid are the two
skincare secrets she swears by and
shares with us exactly how this
works: “My skincare secrets are
simple: hydration and acid. The acid
part sounds a little scary at first, but
a gentle AHA acid, fruit enzyme or
BHA in your skincare routine can
truly turn the worst skin situation
into a beautiful, clear, glowing
complexion. Most acids you use like a
traditional toner before bed. I love to
use the Alpha H Liquid Gold, which
can be found at Marks & Spencer,
once a week to give skin the gentle
exfoliation it needs after a long work
week.
“When it comes to hydration, a
whole multitude of skin worries
can be solved or eased with a little
moisture inside and out. If my skin
is red, dry, blemish prone or in
need of some TLC for any reason I
immediately turn to water. I drink
plenty and often, and the difference
it makes to the skin is outstanding.
Then dig out a rich moisturiser like
The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture
Cream and use twice a day; skin is
plumped, primed for makeup and
glowing.”

Sam spent a lot of her teen
years in WestQuay shopping

beauty product favourites there
which she recommends.
“I absolutely love the beauty

lots of brands to try like MAC,
Dior and Laura Mercier. One
of my favourite products I
have in my collection is my
Giorgio Armani Luminous
Silk Foundation, it gives a

hit its one-year anniversary,
the journey has not been as

“A year ago I’d never held

work around four hours a day
on my blog, creating content,
promoting my work and
attending events all across

travelled all the way up North
of England.
For those who are interested
in making their own blog, or
advancing blogs further, Sam
gives her best advice on how
to do so: “The biggest tips
I’d give for starting your own
blog is to read some, get a
feel for what is out there and
what people are writing and
reading. This will put you in
a great position to work out
what sort of blogger you will
be.”
She notes that there are even bloggers
who concentrate on images more than
writing, so if you do not feel confident
with just writing on your blog there are
other options.
“The visual side of blogging,
photographs and video content is still
growing, so you might find a visual only
blog might be a great way to start, or
maybe you could share the highlights of
your week through a diary style format.
You don’t have to be an amazing writer
to blog, it’s more about having a passion
for what you create and share that will
see your blog take off.”
Something Sam wants aspiring
bloggers to remember is: “Never be
ashamed of your blog; talk to people
about it, share it with friends and family

Top Tips for a
Sleeping Beauty
Putting in some extra
effort before bed can
mean waking up with
skin and hair ready
for the day ahead of
you. Do you wake up
with dry lips or puffy
eyes? Try the tips
bellow to avoid any of
those overnight beauty
problems!
Even your eyelashes can be
cared for. Applying Vaseline
to your eyelashes is an
old trick that leaves them
stronger and healthier. It is
better to apply overnight and
let the Vaseline sink in - you
don’t want to be walking
around the office with gloopy
lashes.
For that extra moisture on
your skin, try a moisturising
mask overnight to wake up
with soft, hydrated skin.
Hydrated skin is a lot more
manageable; it looks soft
without makeup but also
means that makeup sits better
on your skin, so less of those
dry skin flakes when you
apply foundation. Try The
Body Shop’s vitamin E sink in
moisture sleep mask, £14.
Puffy eyes can leave you
looking so tired in the
morning. Use eye cream
to reduce puffiness
when you wake up
as well as nourish
your eyelids. To de-
puff try BareMinerals
Mineralixirs Eye
Nourishing Oil Balm,
£26, at night.
The changing weather and
general use can leave hands
dry and cracked with brittle
nails. Our hands apply our
beauty products to the rest
of our body, so it can be easy
to forget about them needing
treatment too. Apply hand
cream before bed for best
results. Try M&S Moisture
Charge Overnight Hand
Cream, £4.
Applying leave-in conditioner
or a hair mask overnight
and washing it out in the
morning gives your hair a
more intense moisturise and
strengthens hair. Leaving it in
overnight allows the mask or
conditioner to deeply soak in
to every strand of your hair,
maximising its effects.
BEAUTY
This one is already well-
known, but drink plenty
of water before bed to stay
hydrated. It’s forgotten
about as a beauty tip but not
only does it leave your skin
hydrated, it also reduces the
feeling of fatigue, helping you
get out of bed in the mornings
more easily. And, dehydration
causes water retention, which
can be a huge factor in puffy-
looking eyes.
All that turning in your
sleep creates friction
which, in turn, can
cause frizzy hair, and
can even add damage
to your hair. Try John
Lewis’ silk pillowcase,
£3, to minimise the
friction and allow you
to wake up with the
soft, combed hair you
went to bed with.
If you can catch your spots early,
then Tea Tree Oil can make them
disappear overnight. But, even
if you don’t get there in time,
this natural oil will speed up the
process of spot-healing, working by
directly killing the bacteria. Apply
tea tree oil to spots at night with a
Q-tip. You can find a range of tea
tree products at The Body Shop,
starting from £6.
Want to wake up with soft
lips? Exfoliate lips before bed
to get rid of any dry flakes,
leading the way for soft lips.
Exfoliate with The Bodyshop
Lipscuff, £8.
Your skin appreciates
nutrients, and oils can
really sink deep into your
skin’s layers leaving it feel
replenished. There are so
many different oils that
promise to do different
things, such as scar-fading,
wrinkle-reducing or even
just rejuvenating. Clarins
Lotus Oil, £33, aims to
soothe and seal in moisture,
which reduces fine lines and
dehydration.

A daily consumption of water is really
important. Our bodies are made of around
60% water, and we move around so much
during the day, sweating and taking several
trips to the toilet, that keeping ourselves
hydrated is a must.
Suggestions of how much we should consume
vary, with some recommending up to 8
glasses a day. But simply making sure that
you drink regularly throughout the day will
be enough.
Dehydration leads to loss of energy levels and
focus. If, like many others, you’re fed up with
the plain taste of water why not freshening it
up by adding a couple of slices of cucumber?
You can also try lime, lemon, mint,
blackberries or even ginger for an upgraded
water-drinking experience.
A healthy diet can reduce the chances of
getting cancer, according to Cancer Research
UK. We always hear about the significance of
whole foods, but what are they? According to
the Oxford English Dictionary, they are foods
that have been processed or refined as little
as possible without any additives or artificial
substances, so this definitely includes your
fruit and veg.
They are simply that good for you, and an
easy addition for a healthy meal.
Experiment to find the vegetables you
like, and by all means stay away from the
once you’re not so keen on, but make sure
you increase your intake and get those all-
important antioxidants into your body.
When it comes to cooking your meals, make
sure to include as many untouched, organic
ingredients as possible. Fresh is the buzzword
here.
Healthy Living
Simple steps to an improved you
Love your body
Two-thirds of British people
agree that healthy eating and
exercise go hand in hand
when it comes to achieving
a healthier lifestyle and
maintaining a good body,
according to Mintel’s healthy
life style report, released in
2015.
Even simple steps like joining
a fitness class can go a long
way, and of course it doesn’t
have to be the spin class that
many of us dread so much.
Find something that is perfect
for you and make it enjoyable;
get your best friend to join
with you and let exercise
become a fun activity.
Why not get some professional
help on how to develop your
healthy lifestyle? Actress and
author Cameron Diaz’s Body
Book, for example, has all the
tips and knowledge on healthy
living, and simple ways of
improving your wellbeing.
The Body Book is available at
Waterstones for £16.99, and is
an enjoyable, relaxed read.
One of the main tips she
swears by is to get your day
started right, by simply
drinking a pint of warm water
with lemon every morning, in
order to boost your digestive
system.
Fruit and Veg should
be your best friends !

Furthermore, if you ditch the no-carb
diets, and give in to that yummy pasta
you know you want, you will feel much
better for it as carbs can increase
happiness, which will probably come as
a blessing in disguise to many.
Miss Diaz really does
not leave anything out
in her quest to share
her wisdom of health
and body with us.
Her other tips include
making simple
adjustments to your
diet; for example, swapping fried eggs
for poached eggs in the morning, white
toast for brown toast for that yummy
marmite snack during the day, dairy
milk for almond or soya milk in your
coffee and dairy chocolate for dark
chocolate as your almost-healthy snack
whilst watching Netflix.
Adding spices or chillies to your meals
is also a good way to encourage the fat
burning process.
With the help of a positive approach,
cutting down on bad habits will be
much easier. However, try to deny
yourself as little as possible, as the
more you refuse to eat your favourite
pastry, the more your body will crave it.
Everything in moderation
is allowed, Cameron can
back us up on that; you
don’t have to eat that
whole box of chocolates,
you can have a few and
still get that kick of
satisfaction.
Finally, let’s not forget about exercise.
Any form of workout can improve
your skin and gives you a healthy and
natural glow. Going to the gym several
times a week can also reduce stress
levels.
But, if all this doesn’t help or appeal
to you in any way, a glass of red wine a
day is considered as really good for you,
right? So pop into Waitrose now and
choose from our favourite selection.

scent for you, the experience
in store is like no other. The
products are a deliciously inviting
addition perfect for any home
at very affordable prices. If you
are interested in adding some
spring/summer scents to your
home, here is a selection of five of
our favourite products from the
Yankee Candle store.
GADGETS & GIFTS
The large 22oz Yankee Candles are
arguably the brands most popular
product, and the Black Cherry scent is
a favourite among Yankee customers.
With natural extracts, the deep richly,
sweet black cherry fragrance is an
ideal choice for first time customers.
Priced at £21.99, with an approximate
burning time of 110-150 hours, it is
well worth the money!
Next up is the Fresh Cut Roses small
pillar candle. This 7oz candle has an
approximate 35-45 hours burning
time, it is perfect for this spring/
summer season. The candle has a
beautiful aroma of an English garden
filled with roses; a natural subtle
odour that will create a tranquil
ambience in the home. Priced at
£10.49, it would make a fabulous gift!
Yankee doesn’t just sell candles; they
also stock Reed Diffusers. With equal
strength in scent to a candle, the Yankee
Reed Diffusers are an alternative for
those who are not fans of candles, but
are still after that gorgeous fragrance.
The Lemon Lavender diffuser has a
divine combination of the freshly sweet
lavender in cohesion with the zesty
citrus smell of lemons. The diffusers,
priced at £17.99, come with a larger
250ml vase to ensure an enduring
aroma in your home.
If you’re after something small and
understated for your home this spring/
summer, then the plug in electric refills
are an inexpensive way of adding that
elegant touch to any room. At £6.25
each, the refills are compact and last
roughly 4 to 6 weeks. The Beach Walk
refill is a revitalising seaside scent fused
with elements of orange blossom and
tangerine.
4
Besides scent-based products, Yankee also
sells ornaments that would look remarkable
in the home this spring/summer. You can
pick up an array of tea light holders and wax
burners that are striking and unusual. The
Clear Glass Bubble Mosaic Wax Burner is
particularly eye-catching and a bargain at
£14.99! The incredibly versatile Wax Burner
is a must-have this season! It can be used
as a standalone piece or as another way of
creating your own personal scent. Yankee
wax tarts can be placed on top of the burner
and the tea light inside melts the wax,
filling the air with your chosen aroma - an
ideal buy for those wanting something a little different!
The Yankee Candle store has an
assortment of products to suit
everyone at affordable prices. Pop in
on your next trip to WestQuay and
see for yourself - you won’t leave
empty-handed!

It requires just 2 AAA batteries

the thumb-friendly button

stir itself. With this you avoid
the risk of serious wrist injury

We’ve all been there, sitting on the sofa, drinking
a glass of wine and suddenly your glass is almost
empty. You’re feeling lazy and don’t want to get up
and top it up. How do you solve that problem?
Well, there is a solution! There is now a wine glass
attached to a wine bottle. Now your glass can be
fed a constant supply of your favourite tipple from
the bottle beneath. Because let’s face it, drinking
straight from the bottle is just so unsophisticated.
It was over 100 year ago that the Wright brothers
took flight for the first time, and since then we’ve
seen the first commercial flight, the first plane to go
supersonic; but now all we see is drones.
The world has gone drone crazy. Drones are now so
popular it was reported that an estimated one million
were expected to be sold this past holiday season.
One of the many drones available to buy is the
M:Tech sk drone plus. Record and take photos mid-
flight with the Sky Drone Plus.
Its Headless Intelligent Orientation Control means
the flight direction depends on the user rather than
the drone. 6 axis technology makes the drone more
stable when in flight and blades are protected by a
plastic outer circle for better protection.

Moses baskets are a popular choice for baby’s first
bed. The design keeps the baby snug and secure in
their first months, while the confined, darker space
provides a familiar feeling of being in the womb.
While Moses baskets aren’t necessary for baby, they

PregnancyPampering
The changes in your hormone
levels during pregnancy can do
all sorts of weird and wonderful
things to your body, from
growing breasts to morning
sickness; but not all of them are
out of our control.
Hormone changes can also
have a big impact on your skin.
Whilst some women are lucky
enough to benefit from that
infamous ‘glow’, others are not
so lucky.
Skin complaints during
pregnancy can range from acne
to rashes to stretch marks –
thankfully, there are plenty
of things we can do to help
ourselves.
The secret to skin care while
pregnant is to use as many
natural products as you can –
and we’ve got you covered.
SkinDeep
The best way to treat oily, acne-prone skin is to tackle
it with products that will draw out the impurities in
your skin. It’s also a good idea to exfoliate regularly
to get rid of any dead skin cells and sweep out the
oil and dirt gathering in your pores, which will help
prevent future breakouts.
If you have very sensitive skin, products that are a
little gentler may be the best option. If this is the case,
try yoghurt and cucumber, which are both gentle and
soothing to skin, or honey, which is a great natural
antiseptic.
For products that will tackle the problem more
deeply, tea tree oil, lemon juice and apple cider
vinegar are all great options. These also have
antiseptic and skin-clarifying properties, and
are generally a little more thorough – perfect for
problematic skin.
Be sure to use a light moisturiser after using these
products to ensure the skin doesn’t dry out too much,
otherwise it’ll automatically react by producing more
oil – and you’ll be back to square one.

Words by Charlotte Beattie
It might sound odd, but the first step to
healthy skin is exfoliating. While this may
be the last thing you want to do when your
skin is sore, gentle exfoliating products
are available, and will really make the
difference when you moisturise as it’ll get
rid of those dead skin cells and allow your
skin to absorb the moisture much more
easily.
Coconut oil has recently been dubbed as
the one product for everything miracle
worker. One thing coconut oil is brilliant
for is moisturising, and it’s a heck of a
lot cheaper than a lot of other ‘miracle’
products out there.
Other products to try are milk, honey (yes,
it moisturises too), and Aloe Vera. The
chances are your skin is dehydrated, too,
so make water your new best friend.

The key to treating combination skin is
to find a balance. Combination skin is
typically dry in most areas, but oily around
the T-zone. No two people have the same
type of skin, so experimenting to find what
works best for you will be the best way
forward.
Try out the various remedies listed above
for dry and oily skin types and see which
ones work best for you.
Bear in mind that tea tree oil and apple
cider vinegar may be a little too harsh
and drying for those of you who don’t
suffer from breakouts, so start with milder
remedies like yoghurt and cucumber and
see how you go.

Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are incredibly natural
and can appear on the body for many
reasons, from growth during puberty
to weight gain and loss, and of course,
pregnancy. Everyone is different, and
some women are affected more than
others when it comes to gaining their
stripes. It is possible for some women
to prevent stretch marks entirely just
by eating right, but getting enough
vitamins and nutrients isn’t always
enough.
Aloe Vera, olive oil, cocoa butter
and tea tree oil are all effective
remedies for improving and fading
the appearance of stretch marks, and
with regular use, can have a long-
lasting effect.
Discolouration
Another skin change that
can occur during pregnancy
is discolouration of the skin.
Often, patches of skin get
darker on the face, neck
and chest. This is known
as chloasma or melasma,
and is caused by your body
producing extra melanin. It’s
important to protect your skin
in the sun, and the use of a
higher SPF can help to ensure
the dark patches don’t get
even darker.
Lemon, cucumber, guava,
and avocado are most
effective when you apply
them to your face as a
mask and leave for 15-20
minutes before rinsing.
Cocoa butter and argan
oils are also great as
lotions. Massage them
into your skin thoroughly
after a shower or bath for
best results.

It’s not just hormone changes

body during pregnancy.
Carrying a little person

The extra weight being carried around can
put a lot of additional pressure on your
joints and legs, but your feet are most
likely to feel it. Resting as much as you can
and quite literally putting your feet is a big
help, but this range of products will also
help to ease the pain and discomfort.
During pregnancy your
joints can loosen in an
attempt to adapt to your
ever-changing body.
The excess weight and
the position of the baby

Pampering yourself and

help, so why not have a
long, deep bath and put
these products to the test.
Just sit back and relax.
