The Recycling Rascals are a group of college students on a mission to educate students at Kempton Elementary School in New Bedford about recycling. Their goals are to increase recycling awareness and amounts, get community involvement through press, and educate students and families on proper recycling. They held lessons and activities for each grade using games and crafts. Over four weeks they collected over 800 pounds of recycled materials. They faced some challenges but overall helped students and teachers become more aware of recycling both at school and home.
Queen Alexandra Elementary completes a WildED inspired action project!BC Spaces for Nature
Dear WildED, Both classes have been fully engaged in a sustainability unit which culminated in the action plan to reduce our school's garbage. Throughout the process they have been making presentations to both staff and students to increase their motivation to fully participate in our overall goal. They have taken (WildED's) carbon footprint test and committed to at least one more action to reduce their mark on the world. They have done an amazing job and have already been recognized by the Vancouver School Board for their amazing efforts.
Once again, we thoroughly enjoyed our (WildED) program and would love to hear about your programs next year. Take care and thanks, Grade 4/5 Classroom Teachers, Queen Alexandra Elementary School, Vancouver

2. Mission Statement
We are college students who are on a mission to
spread the word about recycling throughout
Kempton Elementary and the New Bedford
community. As the Recycling Rascals, we are here
to encourage “Kempton’s little rascals” how to
properly recycle, reuse, and reduce paper products.
We are eager to make recycling enjoyable and easy
to apply to their everyday lives.
3. Our Goals
To increase the awareness of recycling which will be measured
by how many times the recycling bins have to get emptied per
month
To get the community involved by getting at least 1 press release
in a local newspaper about the efforts we are making at the
Kempton school
We would like to feel confidant explaining to other people which
products are able to be recycled
We hope to educate not only the students but also their guardians
and faculty to recycle when at home not just in the school
To bring all of our skills together and work as one team to
complete our project and goals which will result in a good grade
