                         FIELD TRIP AT THE LIVING DESERT



Grade Level K - 4

Overview

Students will learn about many different animals that live in deserts. They will learn

what they look like and characteristics that enable them to live in the harsh environment

of desert habitats. That field trip is part of the curriculum, and it will be very instructional for the
students. Both inside and outside classes will help them develop their learning skills. It is part of
the California Standard District Requirements.



Parent Leaders

One teacher with 5 parents

Connections to Geography Standards

          Standard 1 – Students will identify animals that are herbivore

        Standard 2 - Students will identify animals that are carnivore.

Time
About four hours. Can be divided into segments to be used at different times

Materials Required

       Living Desert maps. Each student will have one map.
       Crayons and/or markers
       Writing paper and pencils

Besides those elements, children will need to have Sun block, comfortable walking shoes, and
water.
Objectives

      Students will:

             Identify desert animals and the characteristics that enable them to adapt to the
             harsh environment
             Create riddles from information about their animals
             Analyze the distribution of deserts around the world
