1. Fenway Park
Boston’s Beloved Fenway Park. Built in
1912
THE GREEN MONSTER:
The Green Monster is a 37 feet tall
Wall in Fenway Park’s Left Field. It is is
the tallest wall in any park or stadium
in all of baseball. The Green Monster
was built in 1914. It is rumored that it
was built by the Stadium’s owner Tom
Yawkey, to prevent cheapskates from
watching the Red Sox’s baseball
games for free while eating or
drinking at one of the neighborhoods
many restaurants on nearby
Landsdown Street.
The Green Monster is famous for
preventing home runs from many line
drives that would easily be home runs
in other baseball parks. Instead of a
home run, baseballs often ricochet off
the Green Monster resulting in
doubles.
Is Boston’s Fenway Park the quirkiest
professional sports venue in the world?
Here’s why it might be……
Fenway Park is the oldest baseball park in
the Major League. It was built in 1912.
It is 106 Years old! Wow!
Fenway Park was built in a densely
populated neighborhood of Boston called
Kenmore Square. It is the 4th smallest
baseball park in the major league by
seating capacity and the 2nd smallest park
by overall capacity.
It is a small baseball stadium in a tight
constrained space!
Because of the park’s age, small size, and
constant renovation over time, it has
some very weird and quirky features.

2. The Lone Red Seat:
In Fenway Park, all of the seats are
Green except one seat that is called
“The Lone Red Seat”. The Lone Red
Seat marks the spot of the longest
homerun ever hit at Fenway Park.
The homerun was hit by Ted Williams
on June 9th 1946, and was officially
measured at 502 Feet
The Triangle:
In center field at Fenway Park the
walls form into a shape of a triangle.
This differs from most ballparks that
are round or oval shaped. The triangle
is a dangerous area for an outfielder
because if the outfielder is not careful
he can run into the wall or lose track
of the ball in the triangle which could
lead to extra bases for the hitter if the
balls hits the wall or goes into this
area.
One of Baseball’s’ Greatest Chokes
Bill Buckner was the First Baseman on
the 1986 American League Champion
Boston Red Sox. In game 6 of the
Word Series against the New York
Mets, Bill Buckner lets a routine
ground ball go under his glove which
allows the NY Mets to win the game
and eventually the WorldSeries.
This error is considered one of the
greatest chokes in the history of
Baseball. It occurred inside of Fenway
Park in 1986

3. Park Uses:
Fenway Park is most famous as being
the home of the Major League
Baseball team the Boston Red Sox.
Other uses for the park include;
College Baseball, Boxing, Soccer,
Concerts, and other Public Events
Boston Red Sox retired
numbers.
