We all have affectionsforvariouspeople,families,friends,andreligions. Have youever
thoughtaboutaffectionsforyourcommunity? Iam sure you can thinkof a few people inyourlife who
displaysuchadmirationand dedication tocausesasopposedtojustpeople. Afterall,if we didn’ttake
pride insuch areasin ourlivesandplaceswe live there wouldbe ahuge voidinareasof important
humanservicesmayneverbe provided.
One couldimmediatelythinkof healthcare,hospice,seniorprograms, andeven youthprograms
to findwonderfulpeople displayingaffectionsbeyondbelief. Fartoo oftenouraffectionsforour
communityare overlooked. Communityoutreachprogramsandgrassroots opportunitiesare wonderful
methodsforresidentstoindulgeingoodwill andimproving qualityof life intheirarea. Sometimes
findingsuchorganizationsorthe rightpeople toaskforhelpisdifficult. Hence,writingaboutthe topic
and areasof needisan instrumental methodforcallingthe massestomake adifference.
Oftentimesthe peoplewhocare the mostabout yourlocal serviceslike firstresponders,
auxiliariesandnon-profitboardsare stretchedthintryingtohelpasmanypeople aspossible. Iam a
firmbelieverthere are hundredsif notthousandsof wouldbe volunteersandserversinLewisCounty
whoare justwaitingtobe askedtohelp. I have statedthisbefore,andwill likelysayitmanytimes
again,we are responsible forourowncommunityanditis our time toact uponthe callingandneeds
therein. Perhapsyoudon’tknowwhatis youwant to start to be involvedin? Thatisnot a problem
because youcan start at any time andbe of great assistance andan assetto so manypeople. The
communitycenterprojectisagreat place to start. Simplyspreadingthe wordaboutwhatyoureadin
thiscolumnweekinandweekoutwill geteveryoneprimedupforhelpingmake thiscome tofruition.
A challenge formanyagenciesandfoundationsisgettingthe wordoutto the general publicof
whatis actuallyneeded. Be itvolunteers,simple itemsforservicingothers,orjustcommunityservice
workfor a periodof time withan agency. You know the ole saying;“manyhandsmake lightwork.”
How true isthis? I enteredthe LowvilleFire Hall Saturdaytogeta few BBQ chickendinners,andthe
same large group of people were there workingharmoniouslytogetherlikeone bigfamily. Double Play
