Bracelets – The Bracelets of Yesterday

Today it is a fashion statement to wear accessories on your
body. Accessories are popularly worn by women and most of
them would go to any lengths to obtain the kind of accessory
they want. There are thousands of dealers of accessories
around the world and are even easy to obtain these days. They
are scattered everywhere from the streets to shopping malls to
exclusive establishments only meant for the high class. One of
the accessories that most are fond of, including the males are
the bracelets.
Bracelets are around since time immemorial. They are a kind
of jewelry worn around the arm or wrist which is technically
known as an armlet. Sometimes there are bracelets worn Green-Band-Bracelet
around the ankles which are then called anklets or ankle
bracelets. A bracelet that is worn around the boots are called
boot bracelet. They are used to accessorize the boots. The design and the materials used to
make bracelets are a variety. It can be made simply from a piece of cloth, plastic, leather,
metal or other materials that can solidly form the wrist. Most bracelets have extra design
added to them like shapes of animals, stars, squares, etc. that are made of either crystals,
wood, shells or plastic. Others are made of metal of gold or silver. Other countries specialize
in hand crafting accessories and have their own artisans to shape them. The more intricate the
design of the accessories and jewelries or stones added to the accessory, the higher the
price.
The earliest existing amulet recorded is dated 5000BCE. The
materials made to create their accessories are either from
stones, bones or woods. Their accessories have spiritual and
religious implications. In ancient Egypt, the most recognized
symbol that defines the place is Scarab Bracelet. The sole
scarab present in the accessory represents regeneration and
rebirth. Most scarabs wear as an accessory and are mostly
included into the linen of the mummy bandages. The other
earlier tradition of such accessories is worn to indicate status
such as in India were different kinds of bangles are worn for
women to indicate their marital status. Another tradition for
such accessories is the protection against evil. There are

Beaded bracelets are common these days because they can function both as an accessory

health like the ones with ion, karma, for power balance, or magnetic ones. Sometimes they
bring good health to the wearer. There are other ones that give identification for patients in
hospitals and are worn inside the premises when they are admitted inside. One of the most
popular functions of armlets is the friendship ones where a group of friends has the same color
or design of the armlet.
