Farsi, or modern Persian, originated from ancient Zoroastrian scriptures and is currently spoken by around 110 million people worldwide, predominantly in Iran where 60% of the population speaks it. Farsi is also widely used in Afghanistan and neighboring regions. It is written from right to left in an abjad script representing consonants and long vowels.
