The Boy Scouts of America is making changes to become more inclusive and accessible to families. Starting in 2018, Cub Scouts will be open to both boys and girls from kindergarten through 5th grade. In 2019, a program for older girls ages 11-17 will launch that will allow them to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. These changes were made to better meet the needs of today's busy families by offering more convenient co-ed programs. Research shows that both boys' and girls' programs appeal to 90% and 87% of parents respectively. The Cub Scout program will be structured with all-boy, all-girl, or mixed gender dens and packs depending on the needs of each chartered organization.
