The State Records Office of Western Australia preserves state archives, manages access to over 15km of archives in its custody and 35km held by other agencies, and encourages good record keeping among state and local governments. The archives collection began in 1945 and contains materials over 25 years old deemed to have long-term cultural or historical value, created by Western Australian colonial, state and local governments since 1829, organized by the creating department across various formats including files, maps, photographs and electronic records available through their website and searchable database.
