8. New Series Announcement
As the Author/coordinator of the successful Murder Survivors Handbook, I
read, viewed and interviewed whatever I thought might strengthen the
information. My premise was that none of us knows it all. While it would be
impossible to capture everything for a resource book, I was content to give
enough variance, so each reader would feel less alone and find
some resources for their new and treacherous journey.
I plan to introduce one of these sources each month. I will select them in no
particular order but as they come to me. Each resource is of equal importance
as is each homicide. The first in this series is a book published in 2009 by a
reporter and editor for the Boston Globe: The Ride by Brian Macquarrie. To

9. September 25, 20
In 2007, Congress designated September 25 as the "National Day of Remembrance for Murder
Victims." This special day gives us the chance to honor our nation’s murder victims and pray for
surviving family members whose lives were forever changed by an act of violence. While our actions
today cannot change the horrific past, it is my hope that our shared efforts will, at the very least, seek
to remind us of the common bond we share as Americans. Their loss is our loss, and their pain is our
pain. We must never forget.
San Bernardino County District Attorneys’ Office online memorial boards is to do just that—honor the
memories of those who lost their lives to a senseless act of violence in San Bernardino County.
If you would like to have your loved one's photo placed on our online memorial board, please send us
one digital image along with the name of your loved one, date of birth and date of passing to
clee@sbcda.org. Our memorial only dates back to 2011 when the District Attorney's website was
revamped; however, if your loved one's date of passing is prior to 2011, you are also invited to submit
your photos and be included in the memorial. The image must be at least 230 pixels wide and 290
pixels high (230x290).
Page will be updated once a year once a year on September 25.
Remember to submit a picture of your Loved One
Please Save the Date September 23, 2018
As some of your know, we have been talking about a big National Day of Remembrance for Sunday,
September 23, 2018 at Rosie Dog Beach in Long Beach for some time. Finally, some of the plans are coming
together. We will be doing a 5K at a cost of $25 per participant starting at 1 p.m. (more details to follow)
At any rate, we would like to invite all of our support group families to participate and have a booth that you can
use as a fundraiser or provide resource information. You would need to provide your owe tent, tables,
chairs. (we are requesting donations of tables etc. from Long Beach.) Fundraising opportunities we have
thought about: Make a bead bracelet (like Nancy Agular did) for a certain dollar amount, make a fairy garden
(small plants, etc) for $10 each, a bag of used books for $5.00 (I think this is taken) etc. You can sell
packaged food; but cannot prepare food at the beach.
Lots of ideas for your creative folks.....
At the end of evening; we plan to do a luminary lighting of a heart on the beach. We would love to have
everyone participate and join in the fun and remembrance.
Here is the link to register you, your family, friends and to send to everyone you know!

CAMP GOOD GRIEF (SVP)
Camp Good Grief-Special Victims Program (SVP) is a joint effort between the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office Bureau
of Victim Services and Loma Linda University Medical Center Children's Hospital. The 3-day grief camp is geared toward
homicide/suicide and is for children ages 10-16 who have experienced a violent death in their family. Campers board a bus at the
Ronald McDonald House in Loma Linda and head to Camp Cedar Falls in the San Bernardino Mountains for a three-day camp and
grief therapy experience.
At camp the children participate in game and team building activities and therapeutic group activities designed to help them learn
and understand how to cope with the grief over the violent death of their loved one. This camp has been so successful that it has
been expanded to include Camp Good Grief - Special Victims Program Teen Retreat. It will be held annually and provides grief
services for teens ages 14-18 who previously participated in Camp Good Grief - SVP and whose lives have been positively impacted
by camp. It will be a combination of learning advanced grief management skills as well as a training camp for future Camp Good
Grief Peer Counselors.
Camp is free of charge to all campers and camperships are funded by unclaimed victim restitution. Therapists and interns from Loma
Linda Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic, Loma Linda Child Life Specialists and District Attorney's Office Victim Advocates donate
their time to the camp.
The Bureau of Victim Services and Loma Linda University Children's Hospital have pledged to continue fundraising activities,
presentations to service groups, and outreach events so they may continue hosting future Camp Good Grief-SVP programs. Contact:
