Ethanol (CH3CH2OH), or beverage alcohol, is a two-carbon alcohol
that is rapidly distributed in the body and brain. Ethanol alters many
neurochemical systems and has rewarding and addictive properties. It
is the oldest recreational drug and likely contributes to more morbidity,
mortality, and public health costs than all illicit drugs combined. The
5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.

Lung Cancer: Artificial Intelligence, Synergetics, Complex System Analysis, S...Oleg Kshivets
RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.

Faces – beautifully radiant, cared for skin – completely natural!
Faces Organic Calendula for combination skin
One step closer to normal skin!
Faces Organic Calendula offers normal and combination skin
care products with balancing effect.
Why does combination skin need balancing care?
Combination skin, mostly very thick skin, can easily be
recognized by the so-called „T-zone“. The „forehead-nose-
chin“ area starts to shine in the course of the day, tends to be
oily and is therefore prone to impurities. At the same time the
sides of the face are dry, often feel tense and need to be
moisturized. Combination skin is large-pored.
Combination skin needs, above all, support for its protective
layer and balancing care with fats which will not cause any
further impurities. As the skin is rather thick, it responds well to
gentle face massages and to ingredients which stimulate the
circulation and have an astringent effect.
With the new
Faces Organic Calendula
lavera Natural Cosmetics offers care and skin protection using
only natural ingredients of certified natural-cosmetic quality,
whenever possible of certified cultivation.
The basis of lavera Faces facial care is effectiveness, naturalness and skin compatibility. To achieve
greater effectiveness with only natural ingredients, our research and development department has
designed plant-based fluids which are produced uniquely by laverana. The new ingredients are
created from a blend of selected oils and plant extracts. Combining the powers of these ingredients,
these fluids can focus better on the requirements of the skin. The special oil blend forms a protective
layer on the skin, while extracts from grapefruit, orange and apple develop their skin refining effect.
These extracts are especially chosen from grapefruit, orange and apple as the high acid content of
these fruits helps balance the production of excessive oils.
A total of four products, perfectly in tune with each other, support combination skin, leaving it looking
beautiful throughout the year.
Those who do not want to use make-up or tinted moisturizers, may like to replace their day care
product (Balancing Cream) with Faces Summer Glow Moisturizer, with a light self-tanning effect,
which has been incorporated in the calendula skin care system due to its suitability for all skin types.
The 100% natural fragrance of Faces Calendula consists of a fresh calendula-honey-scent combined
with a warm vanilla undertone.
The basic principle of this care system is the use of only natural ingredients with a structure similar to
that of the skin. They penetrate the skin quickly and easily and are therefore highly skin compatible.
These natural ingredients also offer essential vitamins which have to be added, for example, to
conventional creams.

The well-balanced formulations (percentages of water and fat) were especially designed to meet the
requirements of combination skin.
All products contain skin clearing, soothing calendula, which is known for its wound healing
properties. Incidentally, all calendula extracts used are also produced by laverana (see “Calendula in
brief”).
Cleansing Gel Organic Calendula: combination skin produces more oil than it needs. For this
reason it is necessary to cleanse it with mild surfactants. This gel cleanses the skin with its soft,
creamy foam pore-deep and removes dirt particles and make-up gently but thoroughly. Its mild
coconut surfactants absorb excessive oils. Vegetable glycerine and natural, milk-based
moisturizers restore the skin`s moisture balance. Hamamelis hydrolates have a soothing and
lemon balm hydrolates a revitalizing effect. Malva extracts and the plant-based fluid have
astringent properties.
Toner Organic Calendula: this toner regulates the imbalance
between the oily T-zone (forehead-nose-chin) and the dry cheek
area after cleansing. Natural whey of certified organic cultivation
together with lemon balm hydrolates and the plant-based fluids
refresh the skin and have an astringent effect – skin becomes more
refined.
Exfoliant Wash Organic Calendula: when included once or twice
a week in your cleansing routine, finely ground, rounded olive
peeling beads and natural silicic material remove dead skin cells
and minor impurities and at the same time improve the circulation of
the skin. Mild coconut surfactants cleanse the skin softly and gently.
Coconut, soy and, above all, the non-comedogenic babassu oil
prevent the formation of blackheads and minor impurities even
when used over a longer period, and together with the new plant-
based fluids, they guarantee that the skin is replenished with the
necessary lipids. Babassu oil is obtained from a special coconut fruit
and is known for the fact that it is easily absorbed by the skin.

Balancing Cream Organic Calendula: reduces excessive
sebum production in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) with
the plant-based fluids and precious vegetable essences from
hamamelis, lemon balm and calendula. Vegetable glycerines
and natural, wheat-based moisturizers restore the skin`s
moisture balance. Babassu, avocado and olive oil and
valuable mango stone butter give the skin the protection and
care it needs. In this way all dry areas in the face are perfectly
nourished and protected.
Summer Glow Moisturizer Organic Calendula: the natural
light tan provided by this moisturizer is produced by the
following two, low-concentration self-tanning agents
dihydroxyaceton (DHA – obtained from palm or rape seed oil)
and erythrulose (sugar agent). Both agents react with amino
acids in the outer layer of the skin. When used daily a natural
tan will develop after four to five days depending on the skin
type.
The cream basis of Summer Glow Moisturizer contains,
among other oils, babassu and calendula oil. It is therefore
included in the care product system Faces Calendula for
combination skin, but also suitable for all skin types. Soy oil
and triglycerides guarantee ultra-rich care. Vegetable
glycerines, extracts from peach, apricot, kiwi, papaya and
lime, together with the plant-based butter*, moisturize the skin
and have a revitalizing and astringent effect. Babassu and
calendula oil have a balancing and soothing effect. (*:For the
self-tanning agents we have to use a plant butter.)
