- Facebook is a platform that rose from the developer community. So at F8 they announced a new program that is catered for developers of all types, whether they are students learning how to code or experienced coders looking to build - they can find a meaningful community. The program was built to support local communities in the exchange of technical knowledge. [CLICK]
- These communities are a place for developers to learn together and provide a forum for discussion and knowledge sharing around topics that are top-of-mind for developers. Developer events, conferences, and hackathons take place everywhere, but it's often hard to maintain the collaboration and knowledge-sharing in between events. With Developer Circles, in addition to attending local meetups and hackathons, you can continue the conversations in a dedicated Facebook Group. In Facebook Groups, members share coding best practices, advice, links and videos on the latest developer technologies, including Facebook products and other tool updates. Members can also pilot new Facebook Group features, like social learning units comprised of sequential trainings that allow developers to deepen their knowledge on topics like UX design, React and bots for Messenger.
- A 1-way flow of information -> Developer Circles is not a place where developers will go to learn form an expert and be inactively taught. Rather the concept is for developers to interact and learn from each other. The ideal scenario is for developers to network and collaborate. A place to discuss non-technical topics; sales pitch -> Leads take this aspect quite seriously as they monitor that the content being shared in the Facebook Group is technically relevant. It's also important to emphasize that we strongly discourage sales pitches of any sort from being presented in Developer Circles with the goal of strengthening the perception that the program is a place catered to learning. Run by a corporation -> this one is important; we don't mandate specific topics that must be discussed in the groups nor do we take a strong role in organizing these communities. Developer Circles is not a vehicle for Facebook priorities or to push adoption of our Platform products. We're not here to force our message on developers or tell them what to do. Instead, we're relying on our strengths as a hacker company, and our unique ability to connect like minded individuals to collaborate to achieve amazing things.
