Connect America Fund
Regularly go above and beyond what is asked, to make improvements
wherever there is a need - often learning new languages, frameworks, and
other skills in order to do so.
11/2014 to Current IT Specialist
Frontier Communications - Burnsville, MN
Led and developed a wide range of network engineering applications,
aimed at enhancing efficiency of Frontier's engineers and assisting in
acquisition efforts.
Regularly recognized for outstanding achievement as a developer, and
was often consulted on application, database, and system architecture
by teams from around the department, as well as vendors working with
various engineering teams.
Conducted interviews for open technical positions and internships, gave
input, and made hiring decisions.
Frontier Fiber Planning Tool (FFPT)
Supervised a small team of developers to maintain, develop, and support
the application and underlying environment.
Hold regular (semi-weekly) meeting with a group of users, to gather
feedback - this had previously never been done on a SysApps project, and
has been monumental to the project's success.
Administer Oracle 11g database, handling backups, data model, and
indexing.
Develop improvements, new features, and bug fixes to the backend (C#
MVC/WebAPI) and frontend (Javascript, AngularJS, HTML, CSS).
Implemented modern security measures including use of JSON Web
Tokens.
Made decision to move development efforts from fixing the current
2. version, to creating a new version - with the purpose of bringing the
code in line with best practices as well as expanding the scope to
include fiber plant throughout the footprint (previously had only covered
Connecticut, and focused on terminology and processes that carried
over from the AT&T acquisition).
Architected a new database, using open-source Postgres instead of
Oracle, in order to save on licensing fees, and to improve the data model
to be more intuitive and performance-oriented than the old model.
Verizon 2015 Acquisition
Developed and maintained ICGS (Verizon's engineering system) Pair
Gain Cleanup site for use by vendors, to update pair gain information and
track progress for that step of the migration.
Developed and maintain Tracker 2015 site (C#, AngularJS) and database
(Postgres), for use by Frontier and vendor, to track migration progress,
update rubbersheeting and QA workflow progress.
Added feature to send relevant AutoCAD/Bentley files to other vendors'
tracking systems when the QA step was rejected.
Created C# console app to sift through emails on Exchange server and
apply relevant updates to tracking data.
Developed and maintain FROGS (FRontier Outside plant Geospatial
System) Migration site (C#, AngularJS) and database (Postgres), for use
by Frontier, to give a high level summary of migration progress, with
metrics such as target dates, projected completion dates, and charts
including a burndown, current progress, and current velocity of each
step.
Flexmap Mobile
Developed a prototype for Flexmap Mobile (C#, Javascript), to be
demonstrate to mobile client vendor how geospatial data can be pulled
from Postgres, sent via JSON, and displayed with Google Maps
Javascript API.
Consulted contractors and ETL vendor on setting up the data model and
doing data swaps, to perform updates with little to no down time.
Recognized performance issues with the API solution that ETL vendor had
come up with, which were hampering mobile client vendor's ability to
demonstrate the mobile application, and took the initiative to write a
new API (C#), which was ~1000x faster, and gave mobile client vendor
instructions on how to use it in place of ETL vendor's solution.
FROGS Tracer
Recognized performance and maintainability issues with previous version
of ICGS Loop Makeup Tracer, written in VBScript, and re-wrote it in C#,
reworking the code to substantially improve performance and
maintainability.
Likewise, saw a need to improve the FROGS Loop Makeup Tracer, to bring
it up to speed with modern web request formatting (REST API), improve
performance, and make it maintainable. Re-wrote it as a REST API, using
C# and new/modified stored procedures in PL/SQL.
This resulted in over a 99% reduction in response time, unlocking the new
ability to run batch processes of loop makeups, to clean connectivity on
the entire network (previously, this would have taken 10-14 years to run
through the network once - now it can be done over a weekend).
Developed a web client with a UI to run loop makeups (AngularJS),
including comparison pages for testing the new FROGS LMU as well as
comparing FROGS to ICGS.
FROGS Dashboard
Recognizing that there were several FROGS-related web tools, and
resources scattered across several web sites, took initiative to develop a
new web site (C#, AngularJS) to combine the functionality of several
smaller sites, to make it easier for the FROGS developers and users to find
the information they need.
FROGS Legacy Migration
Lead team of developers to create a generic, highly-abstracted
migration/workflow tracking website, for current and future migrations.
Architect and administer database (Postgres) to store progress data
related to generic FROGS-related processes (including, but not limited to
migrations).
Develop API (C#) to interact with the database, while allowing the
format of the data to be as generic as possible - allowing the API to be
3. EDUCATION
AFFILIATIONS
re-used across multiple migrations, without any further development
work.
Instructed contractor on developing web client (AngularJS) to provide
UI for updating statuses, and displaying progress in a generic way,
matching the API.
Broadband Service Availability System (BSA)
Supervised development team supporting BSA.
Served as point of contact between users, internal development, vendor
development, and Frontier senior leadership, to communicate the state
and direction of the application.
Maintained interfaces between BSA and other engineering/marketing
databases (VBScript, C#, FME, WCF, MSMQ, Postgres, Oracle, SQL
Server).
Fulfilled user requests to alter data that could not easily or quickly be
done through the web site (FME, Postgres, C#).
Trained new BSA team members in using the BSA API, the interfaces, and
the database.
06/2012 to 10/2014 Web Developer - Team Lead
Eagle Creek Software Services - Pierre, SD
