Expro’s group HSEQ continues to focus on key safety
across the company, particularly lower level safety incidents,
which have the potential to result in serious consequences.
The safety of our people and a determination to continuously improve
our safety performance is at the heart of the Expro Group HSEQ
team’s mission. Manager David Ford explains the latest key focus
areas across the company.
“I am pleased to report that Expro’s overall safety performance is
remaining consistent. I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge
your commitment and thank everyone for their efforts. Well done and
keep it up.
“However, after a recent spate of Lost Time Incidents (LTIs),
regrettably we have seen three employees suffer serious injuries in the
last quarter.
“As referred to by Charles in his webcast message, one of our
employees suffered severe injuries and lost an eye - this is a life-
changing situation. The other two incidents resulted in our employees
suffering fractured wrists.
“It is essential that we understand the part we must play in preventing
unsafe acts and conditions from escalating into real time incidents.
“A further area of concern is the increase we have seen in high
potential incidents involving working with pressure and hydrocarbon
containment. Due care and consideration of the hazards associated
when working with pressure and hydrocarbons needs to be taken to
prevent incidents occurring. You must ensure equipment is fit for
purpose, procedures are in place and followed, and that all employees
have adequate training and competence.
“Expro’s safety performance is inevitably linked to our reputational and
financial success. More importantly, our safety performance has a far
greater impact on our people. Safety is the most important aspect of
what we do on a daily basis in delivering our products and services, all
of us have a part to play in championing safety across the business.
“We must work together to ensure the safety of not just ourselves, but
also our colleagues. In every LTI, there is generally more than one
person involved in the task at hand, whether in the workshop or
offshore. If at any point you see an unsafe act taking place, please
intervene, stop the job and express your concerns.
“Remember, there are many safety tools across Expro to help prevent
incidents occurring, to intervene in any unsafe situation – this is a duty
on us all.
“I would echo Charles’s message and urge everyone in Expro to get
Back to Basics when it comes to creating and maintaining a safe
working environment. Apply teachings from toolbox talks, the hand
safety campaign and safety training in day-to-day operations. Use the
Positive Intervention (PIP) cards to address unsafe acts and conditions
and positively encourage good behaviours. Follow the Expro House
Rules – if applied diligently, they can make all the difference.
“On a positive note, I am pleased to report that we have had no
Recordable Vehicle Incidents (RVIs) this quarter. We have also
analysed the data from the Safety Climate Survey conducted earlier
this year. Thank you for your contributions – you should see some of
the feedback in your regions soon.
“Well done and thank you for your ongoing support.”
Expro has been awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of
Accidents (RoSPA) Scotland Trophy, which recognises the highest
standard of health and safety management and performance by
an organisation based in or operating in Scotland.
This is above and beyond our RoSPA commendation awarded
earlier this year.
This accolade adds to the nine years of continuous recognition of
Expro by RoSPA for our consistent and outstanding safety record.
Earlier this year, we were awarded a RoSPA Commendation for
excellence in health and safety at work within the oil and gas
sector in the Society’s 2013 Awards.
David Ford said: “We are very proud to receive this major award
from RoSPA. This accolade is indicative of how much effort Expro
employees, across the globe, put into safety and safe working
practices in the delivery of our services.”

The critical issue of safety
requires the constant focus and
attention of everyone in Expro.
I make no apology for once again concentrating on
our safety performance in this message. We need
to live by our ‘Champion Safety’ core value, striving
to keep safety at the forefront of everything we do.
While our overall safety performance continues to
improve, we have seen an increase in the total
number of safety incidents in recent months. In
particular, a recent incident where an employee
sustained serious facial injuries, must serve as a
stark reminder to all of us to follow basic safety
procedures and practices to keep ourselves and
our colleagues safe. It is unacceptable to me that
anyone in Expro should sustain a significant, life-
changing injury.
As I stressed on the recent webcast, we can never
afford to be complacent regarding safety. As a
leading global company, we have the tools and
process in place to stay safe. These include
attending and following toolbox talks prior to
commencing a job. They also include living by
Expro’s essential house rules which, if applied at all
times, will create a safer working environment
across the Expro world. No task is so important
that it cannot be done safely, so I would remind
each of you that you must feel empowered to stop
any unsafe job.
Please also take time to familiarise yourself with our
Positive Intervention programme, which allows
anyone in Expro to take action to intervene to raise
concerns regarding an unsafe situation. I am
challenging every employee to personally
‘Champion Safety’ and to complete a Positive
Intervention card in the next two weeks. Whether
you are workshop or office-based, please
constantly look for ways that safety in your work
environment can be improved. Positive action is
required by all of us to ensure we protect our
people and our business.
On a more upbeat note on safety, I am delighted
that Expro has been awarded the RoSPA Scotland
Trophy recognising our approach to occupational
health and safety management. This is testament
to continued hard work across our business and
helps to reinforce our reputation as a global leader
in safety.
Turning to our financial results, I am pleased that
we have again delivered a strong performance,
which is allowing us to keep investing at record
levels in our business for sustained future growth.
This quarter has seen us deliver a 17% increase in
revenue and 25% increase in EBITDA from the
same period last year, which is an excellent
outcome.
Key areas of our business are delivering impressive
performances through exceptional examples of
teamwork. In particular, we have secured some
high-value and significant contracts recently, most
notably a five-year Subsea contract on a major
project in the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, which will
be Expro’s largest Subsea project to date.
Other strong contract wins include a five-year
contract for SafeWells in the North Sea, which will
see the software system operating on 200 subsea
wells. Our Well Testing team have won a
strategically important contract onshore in Northern
Poland, providing us with a strong foothold to
expand our business in Eastern Europe. I am also
pleased that Equipment Sales have picked up a
series of significant contracts in Asia.
Contract wins like these demonstrate the
confidence of our customers in Expro’s capabilities
and are a positive endorsement of our ability to
deliver quality service. The long-term contracts, in
particular, give me considerable confidence in the
future of Expro. I would like to thank everyone
involved in securing this work, as it ensures we can
continue to invest in our people and product lines
to keep Expro ahead of the field.
We are making great strides in developing our
business during this, Expro’s 40th anniversary year.

Focusing on our people, Expro was
one of three finalists in the 6th annual
cHeRries Awards 2013 for
Extraordinary Team Initiative Award.
Shortlisted for the People Focused
Expro (PFE) project, Expro
unfortunately missed out to Subsea 7
at the dinner held on 6 June at the
Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference
Centre.
Following the launch of the prototype
HawkEye V camera earlier this year,
Expro was shortlisted for Best Well
Intervention in the 12th Annual World
Oil Awards. This provides an
opportunity to spotlight
accomplishments and leading
innovations achieved in the last year.
Winners will be announced at a black-
tie gala on Thursday 17 October at the
Houstonian Hotel in Texas.
Lastly in its run of success, Expro has
been shortlisted for the Energy
Institute (EI) Awards, which cover the
depth and breadth of the global
energy sector, and recognise the
important contribution the energy
industry makes to society.
More than 130 entries were received
to this year’s competition. The judging
panel, made up of senior industry
representatives, has shortlisted Expro
for the Safety Award sponsored by
Shell for the 'No Leak is Acceptable'
campaign, which was part of an
internal safety campaign focused on
teamwork and communication as
effective ways of reducing
hydrocarbon releases.
TV presenter, writer and adventurer,
Ben Fogle, will host the EI Awards
2013 ceremony in London on
Thursday 14 November.

Expro has recently been recognised with award
nominations for its work across well intervention,
HSEQ and most importantly, our people.
It’s been a busy year for Marketing
and Communications.
Not only has Expro celebrated its 40th anniversary,
but to support that, we’ve launched a range of new
marketing and communications tools.
■ New website – designed to support our
employees with their business needs
■ New brochures – across the full breadth of the
company’s products and services
■ Social media – re-launch of our Facebook,
LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter pages
■ 40th anniversary blog – dedicated to
communicate a range of activity over the
business
Through this process, we have received a range of
feedback that we’re using to constantly update
and improve our service. As part of that, we are
re-launching our portal page, to include a variety of
information that will support you further.
This includes our new branding guidelines,
incorporating a range of artwork for business
cards, signature strips, stationary, use of logo and
more.
With a range of updated designs, we wanted to
ensure this was reflected through all our
communications – down to the smallest detail.
More recently, we have been supporting the
business to roll out our Values and Behaviours. To
ensure that all our regions have access to this, we
are currently compiling a library with artwork and
guidelines for each location to select from.
Please view the new portal site, which will launch
on 7 October, and provide us with any feedback.
As you’ll see from the new site, to reflect our
ongoing commitment to both communications and
marketing, we are changing our name – to say just

Deliver Service is an initiative
aimed at defining the ‘Expro
way’ of how we operate to
deliver maximum value to
customers, employees and
shareholders. Originally part of
the Apollo programme, it has
now transferred to the Group
Service Quality function.
Stand

Ian Robb, Service Quality Director, said: “This initiative instills a
sense of pride and ownership in all of us to do the very best job
we can, where everyone is engaged for their contribution and has
an opportunity to make improvements.”
Currently, Deliver Service has four active workstreams, each with
an assigned Continuous Improvement Manager, who are change
agents that enable improvements to be made to the business.
Each workstream focuses on taking best practices from across
the business to help the operation implement them globally.
The Continuous Improvement Managers for each workstream are:

■ Alan Willis – Subsea
■ Ron Taylor – Well Intervention
■ Karen Innes – Global Electronic Equipment
Maintenance Management System
Ian continued: “We have taken a collaborative and engaging
approach, with interactive workshops to determine best practice
with respect to the equipment maintenance life cycles and
operational job life cycles for the product lines. We initially
embarked on Well Testing, which has now been followed by
Subsea and Well Intervention. Other product lines will follow as
these first three are completed.”
The aim is to standardise on minimum international ways of
working. By doing so, any lessons learned or changes to
documentation are captured centrally, making training to a
worldwide standard much easier. Whenever any changes are
made at a global level, Learning & Development are informed so
training material can be adapted accordingly.
The equipment maintenance management system workstream is
in the process of defining and implementing a global electronic
maintenance management system.
During implementation of new working practices, Deliver Service
will aim to integrate common processes where possible, in order
to limit the impact to the business.
Ian added: “With all the change currently in progress, it has been
encouraging to see the enthusiasm the Deliver Service initiative
has generated. Lively discussions and debate has resulted in
much better clarity and definition of the ‘Expro way’ we deliver our
services to customers.”

At OTC in Houston, Texas, from 6-9
May, we took our 40th festivities into
central Houston with a specially-
branded Expro cupcake van.
Stopping at Houston’s leading
hotels, calling on customers at their
offices and at two mystery locations,
Expro birthday cupcakes were
handed out to OTC delegates,
partners and industry insiders.
All those with a sweet tooth had to
do was show something with an
Expro logo or their OTC badge.
People also had an opportunity to
leave well wishes on the roaming
cupcake van in celebration of
Expro’s 40 years of success in the
oil and gas industry.

Setting sail in Den Helder
Expro’s Den Helder base recently took a group of clients to Sail
2013, a 4-day maritime event featuring ships from around the world,
firework displays, parades and other festivities.
Clients were welcomed to Expro’s exclusive ship, the ‘Jantje’ to sail,
enjoy refreshments and watch the tall ships fleet arrive. This was an
excellent opportunity to engage with key clients and was well
received by guests.

Marc was instrumental in supporting the delivery of a new Expro
website. His involvement was extensive, ranging from selection of a
web developer company, to conceptual design, structure, content,
imagery and final launch. Marc continues to work on completing this
project, including a fully responsive design, web analytics and search
engine optimisation.
Following on from this, Graham’s design and technical expertise was
integral to the re-design of our brochures, adverts, and events stands
and branding. This tied in with the new website, ensuring a strong
consistency of branding across the company, over the full range of
product lines, marketing capabilities and technical data sheets – a
significant project in itself.
Victoria worked with Marc and Graham, as well as the product lines
and North America region, to deliver the new suite of marketing for
OTC Houston and new brand - combined with co-organising the event.
This was in parallel with organising Expro’s 40th client event in
Aberdeen, which took place just a month after OTC Houston. This key
celebration invited stakeholders across a range of backgrounds,
including; clients, partners, MSPs, Counsellors, employees, suppliers
and more. Both events were extremely successful and allowed Expro
to cement its new brand positioning with key stakeholders.

of time, above and beyond existing work demands, whist being down
by two key staff members. Despite this, they rose to the challenge and

Donald Horsfall has been promoted to Service Delivery
Manager – UK Well Test. Reporting to Phil Ogg, Donald
will be responsible for driving the continued development
and improvement of WT service delivery. From people to
equipment, Donald will have a wide-ranging remit to ensure
best practice is maintained and the team in supported and
equipped with the right resources to deliver.
Paul Simpson has been appointed as UK Wireline
Manager and will work closely with the PL and ECIS
operational teams. Since joining Expro in 2004, Paul has
held key positions across the company, latterly working in
the Group Continuous Improvement team.

Judy Allan has joined Expro’s Group HR team as a Recruiter
from Aberdeen Appointments Agency where she has spent the
past three years sourcing and placing temporary staff with a
variety of companies. Judy will share her agency expertise and
apply it to Expro has a dedicated
in-house recruiter; building up an internal database of candidates,
sourcing using social media/websites and ultimately reducing
agency dependency and cost burden where possible.
Stefano Dallera has joined Expro as our new
ENI Global Account Manager based in Milan, following 16 years
as Global Account Director for ENI for GE Oil & Gas, Subsea /
Drilling & Surface. As a result of his experience, Stefano brings
unparalleled knowledge of ENI’s exploration and deepwater
development projects as well as strong relationships with ENI
teams in Milan.
New appointments
Kingsley joined Expro as a trainee working
out of Abidjan until moving to the Tullow
Jubilee project in 2008. He very quickly
worked through the competency system to
become a senior member of the offshore
team, notably as Ghana’s first national
supervisor.
To further develop Kingsley, Expro chose to
second him to a new project from inception
to completion. Kingsley worked with the
‘Abo’ project team in Aberdeen, leading
Nigerian trainees in the build and factory
acceptance of the deep water subsea
landing string system, whilst being the
operational interface with engineering,
product line and the client, ENI.
Kingsley then returned to Ghana to work
offshore on Jubilee before taking a week’s
rest and flying to Nigeria to lead the ‘Abo’
site receival test (SRT).
Tim Horsfall, Ghana Country Manager,
comments:
“After a successful onshore SRT, Kingsley
mobilised offshore to the Sedco Express to
co-ordinate the rig-up of Expro’s deepwater
system, and completed a successful
system integrity test (SIT). Kingsley
successfully delivered Expro’s services with
his crew for the Abo well operation.
“Kingsley has been a true professional,
working under pressure and with limited
resources on a project key to Expro’s
regional and global relationship with an
important client.”

Gregor MacLean

been sponsored
for the year by
Expro, where his
father, Eric, works
in Subsea.
Gregor is the Scottish
number one pole vaulter and
Scottish senior men’s indoor
and outdoor record holder
with a jump of 5.35m outdoor
and 5.35m indoors. He is
also the UK number five in
the senior men’s age group.
After moving to
Loughborough in 2010,
Gregor has recently taken a
break from his academic
studies to concentrate on
training in the run up to the
Glasgow 2014
Commonwealth Games,
which he has qualified for.
Gregor finished the summer
season having jumped over
the 5.20m Commonwealth
Games standard three times.
Currently in winter training, he
is now preparing for the
indoor season in early 2014
where he is due to compete
across the UK, France,
Germany and the US.
During competition season,
Gregor trains four hours per
day, six days a week. At
weekends, he takes part in
competitions all over the
country and in Europe.
Training consists of sprints,
speed endurance,
Over the last quarter, Expro employees

in various sporting challenges. Here is a

Elaine’s a ‘Tough
Mudder’ for charity
Elaine Ross, a Technical Assistant
for Fluids based in Aberdeen, took
part in two endurance challenges
this summer.
In May, Elaine took part in the Rat
Race ‘Dirty Weekend’, the world’s
toughest obstacle course,
completing 20 miles and 200
obstacles in 5hrs and 12 mins.
Elaine raised £238 for Friends of
Anchor and the Special Nursery at
Aberdeen Neonatal Unit.
Not content with her first challenge, Elaine then took on ‘Tough
Mudder’ in Edinburgh in August, raising a further £85 for Breast
Cancer Care.
On 1 September, Rinaldo Costa a
Senior Operator in Well Testing in
Brazil participated in the ‘Big
Biker’, a cycling competition in
Vale do Paraíba, São Paulo.
Rinaldo came in 19th place among
more than 105 competitors in the
Under-45s category.
Rinaldo is also participating in the
‘Copa USP’, another competition
in the same region, separated in
four parts. Although he couldn’t participate in the first phase as he
was offshore, Rinaldo is already sitting in 8th place, and has a
good chance of winning the last phase on 10 November.

hours per day, seven days a
week. This includes
gymnastics, running,
swimming, weights, core
stability, high bar strength,
circuits, rope climbs and

Commenting on his
sponsorship, Gregor said:
“I have to work 20-30 hours a
week at a local working
men’s club to help support
my athletic career. Having to
work this many hours on top
of training 30-35 hours per
week can be damaging to my
recovery, therefore this
sponsorship will really help
towards covering the cost of
competing.
“Other costs include sports
club memberships; travel to
and from every competition,
including overnight stays, and
the purchase and upkeep of
my poles, which can cost
anything from £400-650 per
pole. I currently have 13 poles
so it’s definitely a drain on
finances to ensure I have the
most up-to-date equipment.”
The Scottish number one
has high hopes for the
Commonwealth Games,
he adds:
“I’d love to place in the top
three in the UK, indoor and
outdoor, and really work on
my jumps in order to be in
with a serious contention of
realising my ambitions of
winning Scotland a medal in
Glasgow in 2014 and
qualifying for the next
Olympics.”
World Ju-Jitsu crown
for Gustavo!
Gustavo Soares, Business
Development Manager for Brazil,
won the World Jiu-Jitsu
Championships from the Olympic
Jiu-Jitsu Brazilian Confederation in
the black belt category in July.
Gustavo normally trains twice per
week and also teaches Ju-Jitsu for
children in a volunteer project.

On 7 July, three Expro employees
from Haugesund successfully
completed the Ironman 70.3, a
long-distance triathlon composing
of a 1.9km swim, a 90km bike ride
and a 21.1km run.
The Expro team completed the
race in the following times: Tor Inge
Grydeland (6h 59min), Andre
Torgersen (5h 51m) and Eivind
Dybdahl (5h 20m).
North Sea bike run
A team of Expro cyclists from Norway recently took part in the
Nordsjørritet, the ‘North Sea bike run’, an annual event covering 91km
from Egersund to Sandnes through forests, high terrain and beaches.

The Reliance project, one of Expro’s biggest
subsea contracts in India, reached a critical
milestone in the last quarter.
The multi-million dollar deepwater
completion landing string contract, which
was awarded in May 2012, has seen all
equipment built in the Churchill workshop,
Aberdeen, and delivered to India.
A System Integrity Test (SIT) of Expro’s 7
3.8” EH controlled landing strings was
completed in June with the lower landing
string, RCM & accumulator stacked up
vertical for the first time in one of Expro’s
service bases. This considerable milestone
for the project was completed in 13 hours
with full compliance to safety and to the
satisfaction of the client.

efforts of the entire team involved in the
Reliance contract from those in the Subsea
product line, in the workshop, in Supply
Chain, Group Engineering and Logistics,

Reliance project reaches milestone
10-year service award
Dylan Gray, a CHLE Senior Field
Technician in Well Intervention, received
his 10-year service award in July.
Dylan joined Expro as a Slickline
Technician working his way to Operator;
he then transferred to the Cased Hole
Electrical department in 2006. After
moving to DST/TCP in 2010, Dylan
joined the Australian team in 2011 where
he is the senior Slickline Perforating
Specialist.
Bill Dickie, Operations Manager CHL,
said: “Dylan is a valuable member of our
team and I am delighted to congratulate
him on 10 years of service. I wish him
many more happy years with Expro.”

In India, the handover of the Large Bore
EH Subsea System from engineering to
operations was completed with a series of
successful system tests witnessed by our
client, Reliance. The first offshore work is
anticipated to commence in early Q3.
Our business performance this year to date
in Australia also continues to be excellent.
This has been achieved against the
challenges of the closure of the Darwin
base and the consolidation of the business
into the new Perth facility. I’d like to take
this opportunity to congratulate the team
on their success.
In the last quarter, there have been key
changes to the Asia leadership team with
Odi Azidian’s promotion to Indonesia
Country Manager, and Peter Salt moving
from Jakarta to take charge of the Malaysia
& Remotes business. The work of Jopi
Aditijawan whilst performing the M&R
Country Manager role in an interim position
should also be praised.
Fong Soon Thye has also recently joined us
in Kuala Lumpur to take charge of the Asia
Finance function with Emilie Zugmeyer

People
Special thanks go out to everyone in
ECIS that have helped and supported the
numerous development programmes that
are underway these past months, which
will support the regions’ operational
growth well into the future.
The wireline and well test foundation
courses, plus the well test and subsea
graduate program and the well test forces
fast track, have all produced dozens of
world class candidates that are working
across the region to gain operational
experience and advance their
competencies.
Performance
On a not so positive note, the ECIS
wireline team had two surface wire
breaks in August, which were the first in
nearly a year. These events, along with a
number of other service and safety
incidents in the past couple of months,
are concerning. Efforts are underway to
investigate and work to refocus the team
and return to the stellar performance of
the past year.
Partnerships
The big news in ECIS during the past few
months has been the award of the BP
Shah Deniz subsea project, which is
Expro’s largest subsea project to date
globally. Work is underway to design and
build two purpose built electro hydraulic
subsea strings and the associated
equipment. Parallel to this effort, plans
are underway to build a new facility in
Baku, Azerbaijan and recruit and train
operational and support teams ready for
the first completion in early 2015.

involved in this project to date and those
who will be working towards making this
a successful project.

Joffrey Angevare, CE Well Test Maintenance
Co-ordinator based in Den Helder, has developed the
first Expro aeroplane!
Joffrey takes part in remote-control model aeroplane
shows across Holland and recently customised a high-
speed electro glider, with a new foil over the wings, to
reflect Expro’s branding.
He comments: “I thought I’d design Expro’s first aeroplane for a bit of fun and it certainly
attracts attention at airshows. I would love to develop a white L-39 Albatros Jet with a real
turbine on board but due to the costs of the equipment, I’ll have to save up. However, the
Expro jet may one day take to the skies!”

The Southern North Sea team in Great
Yarmouth, Expro’s first support base,
held an open day on 19 July to
celebrate the company’s 40th
anniversary. The team were especially
pleased to invite clients, vendors and
staff to celebrate our continued
success.
Ninety guests and staff attended on a
very hot day to enjoy lunch and a
welcome visit from the ice cream van. Information and equipment from Meters,
SafeWells and Well Intervention CHSM was also on show.
A fastest 500m cycling competition, courtesy of Pedal Revolution’s Rollerdrome
experience, was held raising £100 for the Palliative Care East Unit.
IT Café in Aberdeen
On 2 August, the IT team in Aberdeen
held an IT Café for staff in the Centre of
Excellence at Lion House.
The team showcased current and new
models of PCs including the Lenovo
Helix Tablet PC, ThinkPad Carbon X1,
ThinkPad T430, ThinkCentre Tiny
Desktop PC and Dell 3D Engineering
Laptop, and were on-hand to discuss
the new devices. Visitors were also
invited to sample the equipment to
explore functions and usability.

We are delighted to be
celebrating our 40th
anniversary in the region.
Our first party in San
Mateus for clients and
Expro employees was a
great success!
We are due to celebrate in Rio during
OTC Brasil from 29-31 October, where
Expro will have a 100 sqm booth with live
demonstrations of our services and
products.
In recognition of our service quality,
Petrobras confirmed their option to
increase the actual slick line fleet from 20
units to 30 slickline units, the maximum
quantity allowed as per the contract. We
will also mobilise two electric line units to
cover our needs for real time data
acquisition. That will put us with the
largest worldwide slickline fleet to a single
client.
The first prototype of the ExACT tool was
tested in San Mateus in June on an
onshore well for Petrobras. After the test
and analysis it was considered successful
but important suggestions were
implemented on the final production
version of this tool.
Now I am pleased to announce that our
client also accepted to include two DST
strings in our main contract. Two new
improved tools have been cleared from
customs and are on their way to Sao
Mateus, and after a second test that will
happen early October, the deal will be
formalised.
In August, Expro’s Mexico operations
received a visit and the opportunity to
speak to Jean Moritz, Region Director with
regional team managers Carlos Madaleno,
Rafael Lavouras and Jose Chaves.
The regional team also visited our clients,
HES and Pemex, who we are seeking
future partnerships with. Regional
management also met with the local team
for an informal lunch and team photo in
the Villahermosa shop.

management visit and interact with local
personnel, which maintains a strong
region-wide team ethos ready to
undertake future challenges. It is also
worth mentioning our personnel working
offshore who unfortunately couldn’t meet

In July, Expro visited the Federal University
of Itajubá, a top Brazilian university situated
in Minas Gerais state, for three days.
Supported by academic staff, the visit
aimed to highlight our Trainee Project and
engineer selection to attract talented
graduates.
Expro received 73 candidates from different
engineering areas of the University on the
first day. Carlos Madaleno, Strategic

Manager, and Danielle Kurrik, Human
Resources Analyst, introduced information
about Expro, the project and what was
expected from candidates.
After psychometric tests, English and
Portuguese exams and group dynamics
and individual interviews, 24 candidates
were selected. Next, at the Macaé Base,
with the participation of PL managers,
activities focused on technical knowledge,
capacity and skills.
The LATAM team now has five new
students participating in the Trainee Project
in DST, Slickline, Subsea, STS and FSA,
and six Junior Engineers working with
Slickline, STS, DST and CaTS.

Biphasic Separator
Fiscal separator package success
Expro has an automated mobile Biphasic
Separator onshore in Brazil, which collects
data on temperature, pressure and flow of gas
and fluid. The data is sent to a flow computer,
which performs the calculation of oil and gas
flow, generating production and well test
reports, all strictly following the requirements
of the Brazilian National Petroleum Agency
and the National Institute of Metrology, Quality
and Technology.
Tests are performed daily in several onshore
wells in Espírito Santo state, and take 4-24
hours depending on well conditions or
customer needs.
The equipment was recently upgraded,
increasing gas measurement rate to upper
levels, enabling a wider range of operation.
The turbine meters were replaced by Coriolis
and Daniel Dual Chamber Meter Tube
Assembly.
The package has become a signature project
in Brazil for natural gas measurement at low
flow rates, achieving from 30 Nm³/d to
500,000 Nm³/d. The new meters are
maintenance free, which has provided
significant savings and increased productivity.

Two years ago, the MENA
team developed a
3-prong growth strategy
based on strengthening,
growing and expanding
the core business.
Today, I am very excited and glad to
report that in Q2, the MENA team has
achieved key milestones in its growth
strategy.
We have signed a multimillion 2-year
contract with Oryx to deliver a multi-train
EPF in Kurdistan. This represents a
breakthrough for MENA’s Production
Services PL and a great opportunity to
expand geographically into the Kurdistan
Region of Iraq.
The successful mobilisation of the first
site of the ‘Deliverability Testing’ contract
for Aramco represents a major
achievement in growing our well test
business in Saudi.
The launch of ‘Deliver Service’ initiatives
in both Egypt and Algeria is a major step
in strengthening our core business.
Each one of you is at the heart of these
successes. Thirty five employees
received service awards this calendar
year. In FY14, 45 new hires joined the
MENA team and 41 employees were
promoted in MENA based on achieving
development milestones and the entire
MENA workforce has documented
objectives in their EDP record.
Remember, you are all encouraged to
use the EDP system along with Skill
Station to take control of your personal
development.
Our campaign to reduce driving related
accidents in MENA is paying off. In
addition to all our HSE indicators falling
into the green zone, I am delighted to
report that, with the exception of one
equipment transport incident involving a
3rd party transportation company, MENA
achieved zero driving accidents
throughout Q2 and the critical summer
heat season. I want to remind each and
every one of you to stay alert and safe on
and off the job.
CaTS trial in Qatar
Qatar Petroleum (QP) recently deployed
Expro’s Cableless Telemetry System (CaTS)
Gauges for a 30-day trial.
The objective was to monitor the reservoir
pressures at the Dukhan Field in wells that do
not have permanent downhole gauges (PDG)
installed. Acquiring pressure data is
paramount as the field’s dew point pressure is
maintained by controlling production and
injection rates/pressures. With the existing
design of the wells, getting pressure data is a
difficult and costly process.
Expro’s CaTS provided an efficient solution to
address QP’s challenges. The system was
successfully deployed in June 2013 and
tested for a 30-day period, acquiring periodic
pressure data at a 2-hour frequency. Trial
results were encouraging and well received by
the client, paving the way to a possible
procurement of the system by QP.
Once again, Expro’s tailor-made solutions
provided our customer with efficient and
reliable technologies addressing their
challenges and aiding in maximising
production and thus enhancing field recovery.

ADIPEC 2013 will take place from 10-13
November in Abu Dhabi. The conference,
which has recently been made an annual
event, attracts over 1500 exhibitors and
51,000 attendees.
This year, Expro will celebrate its 40th
anniversary by showcasing our investment
in new technology and innovation across
our product lines including Well
Intervention, Well Testing, Meters and
DST/TCP.
The stand will feature various models and
live demonstrations including the prototype
HawkEye V downhole camera and the
field-ready HP/HT Drill Stem Testing
BigCat™ packer, which were also
showcased at OTC in Houston and
Offshore Europe in Aberdeen earlier this
year.

Gearing up for
ADIPEC 2013

16. Expro regions: North America Land
Regional Review by Mark Enget Vice President
NAL experienced a record
breaking month in July
with $6.9M in revenue.
Over the past 3-4 months,
we have been actively
seeking acquisition targets
looking at over 20
possibilities.
Simultaneously, we are busy executing
our organic growth plan focusing on
revamping our WT Clean-up business
(known as frac flowback in NAL). Three
key markets have been identified to start
the ball rolling: 1) Eagleford Shale 2)
Permian Basin 3) Bakken Shale.
A gap analysis was conducted in Q1 to
identify equipment shortcomings, and a
business plan and BER was put in place
to enter the Permian and Eagleford
market in a much bigger way.
Equipment has been ordered and due to
arrive in Q4-14 so we can get to work.
We have also field tested the new
SetPoint Choke receiving excellent
feedback. We are very confident the
new SetPoint will be unparalleled from a
capability and performance standard.
Despite the HawkEye V experiencing
development delays meaning we haven’t
introduced this new technology to
clients, we are eagerly awaiting the
opportunity.
In order to prepare ourselves for best-in-
class performance, we have added key
positions and reorganized internally.
Training is a major determinant to our
success, and to this end we have Jason
Yeates leading the charge as new L&D
Manager. Our quality efforts are also a
precursor to success, therefore Tobin
Breithaupt has been appointed Quality
and Service Delivery Manager. Salvador
Mendez recently joined us as PLM for
WT/Frac Flowback/Chokes and Kerry
Daly as TCP BDM. I’d like to welcome
everyone and look forward to exciting
times ahead.
Day-to-day, we are trying to become
more environmentally-friendly and have
eliminated Styrofoam cups and begun to
recycle aluminum cans and paper. These
may seem like small steps, but overall
can make a real difference to our future.

Ford Shale Play, invited Expro to cook lunch at
their monthly safety meeting. The team in
North America Land leapt at the opportunity to
accommodate.
Lynn Hebert, Field Sales Manager, alongside
Tobin Breithaupt, Service Quality Manager, and
James Hale, Corpus Christi District Manager,
cooked lunch for over a hundred El Paso
employees. Their efforts were met with
significant praise and gratitude from the
numerous employees who were in attendance.
Lynn comments:
"This event was a great opportunity for us to
further cement our two-year relationship with
El Paso and show Expro’s appreciation for
their business. Cooking over two hundred beef
kabobs ourselves was a feat to say the least,
but I am proud that the team was able to rise

Interface Manager for NAO
based in Houston, has worked
for Expro for seven years,
starting his career in Broussard.
Acting as business liaison
between Expro and Chevron for
Subsea-related issues, Joe has
been in the oil & gas industry for
over 17 years working for
Schlumberger and Oceaneering.
Previously in the US Air Force,
Joe has travelled far and wide,
living in seven US states!
Currently working with Chevron,
Joe comments:
“We are running three 15,000psi
electro-hydraulic subsea systems
and are nearly finished building
two new sets of 15,000psi land
and lock string topsides.
“The project is now named the
Deepwater Exploration and
Production or ‘DWEP’ which
encompasses the Tahiti, Jack,
Saint Malo developments and will
include all future Gulf of Mexico
developments.
“We are also in negotiations to
add a fourth system and upgrade
our current land and lock
downhole string components in
order to meet Chevron’s rig
schedule requirements due to
ramp up in 2015.”
Living in Houston, Joe has grown
both personally and
professionally more than any
other time in his career, and
enjoys spending time with his
wife Kimberly, daughters Abegail
and Katelynn (who he is currently
coaching in fast pitch softball),
and son Joshua.
Joe is passionate about his work
with Expro and believes you
should be honest when forging
relationships with clients, and
taking a positive approach to

GOM WIS camera
wedge solution
Shell recently had a well that
they needed to recomplete, but
an obstruction prevented
access to the tubing below the
SCSSV (Surface-controlled
Subsurface Safety Valve).
Specifically, the SCSSV flapper
type valve had a sheared hinge
pin upon which the valve
flapper functions, causing the
flapper to ‘float’ in a cavity
directly below its rotation point.
This created an effective
downhole obstruction.
Due to the small cavity type, a traditional repair option was
deemed unsuitable. A viable solution was then developed by the
Broussard Team including Mike Leblanc, Account Manager;
Jeremy Langley, Operations Manager; and Paul Reaux, Designer.
The team designed a wedge tool, attached to an Expro Downview
Camera, as well as a flapper isolation sleeve set in place by
hammering on shear pins while not damaging the electronics.
The innovative concept was presented with animation to show the
operation and simulate the obstruction. Of the four options Shell's
vendors proposed, only two were determined to be field-ready
after testing at the Broussard North facility.
In four weeks, from initial discussions, a complete CAD model of
the string was developed, the string was built and tested,
improvements were made and it was on stand-by ready to go
offshore.

particular tool also now provides another service to our customers
in a niche market becoming more common in GOM.”

Finishing up Q2, NAO is
looking strong on our fiscal
performance.
We are forecasted to end the half of the
year with $62.4M in revenue against a
budget of $60.3M. This is an
accomplishment of all PLs pulling together
and sharing resources to secure work and
complete it successfully.
Going into Q3, FY 2014, TCP/PST continue
to show great growth of 26% over budget.
Since April, PST has set records with YTD
of 40% gross margin. In addition, GOM
Well Testing has had 2 record months of
1.5M in revenue without sacrificing Safety
and Service Quality. Our GOM Wireline
department has new management and with
this in place has started to hit budget
numbers for the past 2 months. We
continue to grow and cultivate the ‘A team’
for operations and sales.
NAO is focusing on cost savings going into
Q3. The 2 areas for improvement are the
reduction of service quality incidents and
management of costs. Through the
success of our team, we have
accomplished $1.409M in savings to the
bottom line. Please keep up the great work.
We continue to focus on visible leadership
to interact with employees and elevate HSE
performance. We have introduced a new
Stepping, Handling, and Lifting programme
called ‘MoveSmart’ to train employees to
be more aware of and better able to identify
potential hazards. I have taken the course
and encourage all of you to attend. We
started the first course with eight people
and ended up with 22 for Subsea. The
feedback from students was great.
I look forward to a successful second half of
this already prosperous fiscal year.

SSA has seen an increase in
the past quarter in the
actual severity and impact
of Service Quality incidents
across the region.
At the end of August, the figures were 4
SSQI’s, 26 MSQI’s and 76 LSQI’s for this
financial year.
This has raised obvious concerns as we
gear up for jobs planned from September.
Management are actively trying to identify
and implement improvement plans to
prevent this alarming trend continuing.
Despite this, there has been an
improvement noted in the quality of incident
investigations with more accurate root
cause analyses and corrective actions put in
place to manage the current spike. The
topset incident investigating training
currently underway has made a significant
contribution. Our Overall Job Performance
(JPR) scores returned from clients have also
been above 80% for the financial year so far.
Although our Performance Improvement
Report (PIR) management target of closing
out incidents on the system within 90 days
is still high, there has been a month-on-
month improvement of 6% noted on this
KPI performance which shows real
commitment in striving for continuous
improvement.
Shell Gabon recently congratulated Expro’s
excellent performance on HSE and held the
company as a prime example that Shell’s
Target Goal Zero is achievable. A continued
focus on Excellence in Operations for this
year has also seen the average score for
April to August reach 87%.
SSA has recorded 3 HiPo’s from Jul-Aug
with 2 related to pressure release and 1 to a
gas leak. Our classroom-based training is
ongoing and we are making progress to get
all employees through the program.
The region recently achieved 1 million
exposure hours without an LTI and TRC. We
hope to maintain this achievement in order
to pass our previous best of 5.4 million
hours without an LTI. SSA also achieved 1
million miles driven since the last RVI and is
continuing to manage vehicle safety. Well
done and thanks to all involved.

contributing nearly 50% of all PIP cards
for the region.

awareness sessions with teams,
personally funded a prize for the best
contributors and provided coaching to
Base Ops.
Riccardo Muttoni comments: “Well done
and thank you to all teams for their
participation and commitment to safety.
By identifying and acting on unsafe
behaviours and conditions via the PI
Programme, we contribute to the overall
improvement strategy for the region.
In August, the Nigeria HSEQ team
managed to reduce open PIR’s down to
21, with only 2 older than 90 days.
Riccardo adds:
“By actively managing PIR’s, we can learn
from our failures to prevent future
incidents occuring. We can also focus
more on proactive safety initiatives as
opposed to allocating most resource
reacting to incidents.”

Musa Tanimu, Senior Subsea Operator based in
Ghana was awarded the annual Tullow Oil Work
Smart Award receiving a $1000 prize.
Tullow Oil selects a Work Smart winner per week
who then compete for a monthly award. At the
end of the year, the monthly ideas go head-to-
head for the annual award.

was eliminated by Musa’s idea to change the
9/16” plug with a SOF fitting, hose and valve in
order for it to be controlled without a man riding
at the well centre.
Musa was praised for his idea by Tullow Oil,
reducing a hazardous task whilst at the same
time improving online efficiency. Well done Musa!

My job:
I am tasked with setting up and growing
the SafeWells business in my region. Part of
that success will stem from taking a
strategic approach. By looking for ways to
combine other Expro PLs/services, we can
sell more holistically into a customer rather
than just as a point product.
Proudest work achievement:
Co-founding a young professionals
organisation that focused on developing
leadership skills and networking. It
expanded from one chapter in Houston
with about 50 people to 20 chapters
around the world with over 3,000 members
within five years.
Most like about your job:
I love the inconsistency! By which I mean on
one day, I can be doing a sales presentation
to a client and the next, working on revising
Ts and Cs. It’s never dull.
Typical working day:
As I am the only person on the SafeWells
team in NA, I will typically get work done in
the morning so I can overlap with the UK
work day as much as possible. I save more
of the tedious activities that I don’t need to
interact with the UK team with for the
afternoon.
Employment history:
I started as an exploration geologist at
Marathon Oil, moving to Landmark
Graphics/Halliburton where I spent the next
13 years in roles from technical sales
consultant, regional business development
and account manager. I also worked in the
hydraulic fracturing and completions tools
group in a global BD and marketing role to
gain more experience.
Family:
I have six brothers and whenever we get
together it is controlled chaos but a lot of
fun. I met my husband, Charlie, in third year
at University. He was my Teaching Assistant
for my first geology class (and yes, I got an
‘A’). We have two kids, Katherine (4) and
Erik (3).
Outside interests:
My third year at uni was the summer
Jurassic Park came out and I fell in love
with paleontology. I also love listening to
and making music of all kinds, cooking,
running, learning Spanish and officiating
lacrosse. I started my own parent-child
music class business, Crescendo Music, in
Houston last year, and teach two classes a
week. I also play the flute in the Houston
Pride Band.
Best experiences:
Living and working in Asia for over two
years really made me appreciate other
cultures – it was one of the most rewarding
experiences of my life.
Best book I ever read:
Some of my favourite classics include
Catcher in the Rye, Perfume and Great
Gatsby. I just finished Let’s Pretend This
Never Happened which made me cry with
laughter!
Interesting places visited for work
and / or pleasure:
I have serious wanderlust, so anytime I can
visit a new place I do it. Favourites include
China, India, and Peru. Visiting Peru was
very special because it was the first time I
had traveled to a Spanish-speaking country
since learning the language and I was able
to connect and speak with locals, which
made for a memorable experience.
