TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Please excuse Keng Lee from class on May 25, 2011. He has been invited to be a guest
performer for the Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration at the USDA Forest
Service office in Clovis, CA. This event will be hosted by the Central California Consortium’s
Asian Community Liasion, Mai Thao. The purpose of this event is to educate the Forest
Service’s employees on the Asian culture and its diversity.
The Central California Consortium (CCC) is a kindergarten through employment, minority
outreach and recruitment program, serving the greater San Joaquin Valley. It was established in
1996 as a Hispanic Initiative by the Washington Office of Civil Rights. The focus of the program
is to educate the underserved rural communities on natural resources and to encourage them to
use public lands. Currently the program has established Hispanic and Asian components with
African-American and Native-American programs being established in the near future. Our
mission is to diversify the Forest Service workforce by encouraging careers in natural resources,
higher education, and employment through mentoring, leadership, and community outreach
efforts.
In fulfilling our mission of diversifying the Forest Service workforce, we have been outreaching
to underserved communities along with celebrating African-American, Native-American, and
Hispanic American month. This month, we will be celebrating the Asian and Pacific Islander
Heritage Month and would like for you to consider excusing Keng Lee from class.
If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me via phone or email.
Sincerely,
Mai Chou Thao
