My presentation from the first edition of Agile Manchester summarises what we - Culture Work - have learned during two lean transitions that were very different in nature. It shows how different management approaches and cultures influence the introduction of lean management and highlights the importance of balancing push and pull. It explains how to use and combine different lean methods and approaches (e.g. awareness trainings, retrospectives, A3 problem solving, agile project management) for a company-wide roll-out of lean.
This guide shows how to design and implement processes for the cost management of construction projects. It is an interactive workbook that follows the main steps of conceptualising a cost management system. In this way, the required elements for a subsequent software implementation can be gathered straight away. The guide was created collaboratively by CONJECT AG and me. I provided idea and content, CONJECT AG took care of design and realisation.

m249-saw PMI To familiarize the soldier with the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon ...LinghuaKong2
M249 Saw marksman PMIThe Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW), or 5.56mm M249 is an individually portable, gas operated, magazine or disintegrating metallic link-belt fed, light machine gun with fixed headspace and quick change barrel feature. The M249 engages point targets out to 800 meters, firing the improved NATO standard 5.56mm cartridge. The SAW forms the basis of firepower for the fire team. The gunner has the option of using 30-round M16 magazines or linked ammunition from pre-loaded 200-round plastic magazines. The gunner's basic load is 600 rounds of linked ammunition. The SAW was developed through an initially Army-led research and development effort and eventually a Joint NDO program in the late 1970s/early 1980s to restore sustained and accurate automatic weapons fire to the fire team and squad. When actually fielded in the mid-1980s, the SAW was issued as a one-for-one replacement for the designated "automatic rifle" (M16A1) in the Fire Team. In this regard, the SAW filled the void created by the retirement of the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) during the 1950s because interim automatic weapons (e.g. M-14E2/M16A1) had failed as viable "base of fire" weapons.
Early in the SAW's fielding, the Army identified the need for a Product Improvement Program (PIP) to enhance the weapon. This effort resulted in a "PIP kit" which modifies the barrel, handguard, stock, pistol grip, buffer, and sights.
The M249 machine gun is an ideal complementary weapon system for the infantry squad platoon. It is light enough to be carried and operated by one man, and can be fired from the hip in an assault, even when loaded with a 200-round ammunition box. The barrel change facility ensures that it can continue to fire for long periods. The US Army has conducted strenuous trials on the M249 MG, showing that this weapon has a reliability factor that is well above that of most other small arms weapon systems. Today, the US Army and Marine Corps utilize the license-produced M249 SAW.

From Concept to reality : Implementing Lean Managements DMAIC Methodology for...Rokibul Hasan
The Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry in Bangladesh is a cornerstone of the economy, but increasing costs and stagnant productivity pose significant challenges to profitability. This study explores the implementation of Lean Management in the Sampling Section of RMG factories to enhance productivity. Drawing from a comprehensive literature review, theoretical framework, and action research methodology, the study identifies key areas for improvement and proposes solutions.
Through the DMAIC approach (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), the research identifies low productivity as the primary problem in the Sampling Section, with a PPH (Productivity per head) of only 4.0. Using Lean Management techniques such as 5S, Standardized work, PDCA/Kaizen, KANBAN, and Quick Changeover, the study addresses issues such as pre and post Quick Changeover (QCO) time, improper line balancing, and sudden plan changes.
The research employs regression analysis to test hypotheses, revealing a significant correlation between reducing QCO time and increasing productivity. With a regression equation of Y = -0.000501X + 6.72 and an R-squared value of 0.98, the study demonstrates a strong relationship between the independent variables (QCO downtime and improper line balancing downtime) and the dependent variable (productivity per head).
The findings suggest that by implementing Lean Management practices and addressing key productivity inhibitors, RMG factories can achieve substantial improvements in efficiency and profitability. The study provides valuable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers seeking to enhance productivity in the RMG industry and similar manufacturing sectors.

In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).
AI Trends in Creative Operations 2024 by Artwork Flow.pdfmarketingartwork
Creative operations teams expect increased AI use in 2024. Currently, over half of tasks are not AI-enabled, but this is expected to decrease in the coming year. ChatGPT is the most popular AI tool currently. Business leaders are more actively exploring AI benefits than individual contributors. Most respondents do not believe AI will impact workforce size in 2024. However, some inhibitions still exist around AI accuracy and lack of understanding. Creatives primarily want to use AI to save time on mundane tasks and boost productivity.
Organizational culture includes values, norms, systems, symbols, language, assumptions, beliefs, and habits that influence employee behaviors and how people interpret those behaviors. It is important because culture can help or hinder a company's success. Some key aspects of Netflix's culture that help it achieve results include hiring smartly so every position has stars, focusing on attitude over just aptitude, and having a strict policy against peacocks, whiners, and jerks.

Google's Just Not That Into You: Understanding Core Updates & Search IntentLily Ray
1. Core updates from Google periodically change how its algorithms assess and rank websites and pages. This can impact rankings through shifts in user intent, site quality issues being caught up to, world events influencing queries, and overhauls to search like the E-A-T framework.
2. There are many possible user intents beyond just transactional, navigational and informational. Identifying intent shifts is important during core updates. Sites may need to optimize for new intents through different content types and sections.
3. Responding effectively to core updates requires analyzing "before and after" data to understand changes, identifying new intents or page types, and ensuring content matches appropriate intents across video, images, knowledge graphs and more.

So you are working in the construction, infrastructure and real Estate Industry and
are responsible for the commercial health of an asset, project, programme or

most of your time in front of your computer with Excel or some other spreadsheet
applications. That causes you headaches and sleepless nights.

Exceleritis Fragilis
Excel has a very fragile nature. How quickly has an error crept into a
formula! How rapidly are cells referenced in the wrong way or values
summed up incorrectly! When duplicating areas, sheets or files these
errors are spreading continuously and almost virally. If various people
are collaborating on this basis there is also the danger of inadver-
tently destroying calculations.
You are really lucky if you are notified about an error with a friendly
#REF! notification.
If you forget a reference you typically won’t notice that at all.

Exceleritis Controlibis
Once an Excel spreadsheet has been created, the real work starts. In
this context, adding more data is a comparably simple endeavour.
If the constructed logic has to be modified it is getting really compli-
cated.
You then have to check already created formulas, references and
sums in order that the accuracy of the established calculation can still
be guaranteed. A very time consuming and costly undertaking that
doesn’t generate any additional value for the business.
If checking is omitted due to lack of time this can have fatal conse-
quences.

Exceleritis Inaccensis
The pressure is high. The purchase order has to be issued in order to
avoid delays.
The invoice has to be paid in order to realise the discount. Mr Blue is
on holiday, Mr Greene is on sick leave and the managing director is
on a business trip. What next?
How can you access the up-to-date information? Probably not at all.
The approval has to wait. It is bad enough if you notice that some-
thing remains unprocessed. It gets even worse though if you do not
notice at all that something got stuck and that deadlines are ex-
ceeded.

Exceleritis Comprehendis
If you have received a new Excel file from somebody the detective
work starts straight away.
You realise quickly that the creator is perhaps the only person who
instantly comprehends the file in all its breadth and depth. Other
people have to familiarise themselves with the content and dig into
multiple sheets. If you lead a team you then have the challenge that
the same content is often labelled with different names. Consequent-
ly, even summaries and overviews are not immediately interpretable.
There is the danger of information silos. It is getting really critical if
“excel gurus” leave the organisation and take the detailed knowledge
with them.

Exceleritis Inconsolidabilis
Commercial data has the very characteristic that it has to be reported
at recurring intervals.
If information about a project or real estate asset is stored in various
locations this data has to be updated and gathered every time before
the current situation can be evaluated. This is cumbersome!
Something similar applies when projects and real estate assets have
to be consolidated in order to generate aggregated portfolio or
company views. In doing so, every recurring manual effort is multipli-
ed by the amount of reporting intervals.
This can easily eat up a couple of weeks per year.

Confidential business information in an Excel file?
Salary information, internal calculation parameters and specific
market information are frequently an essential part of spreadsheet
calculations and translate strategic competitive advantages into
numbers. This data is not safe in an Excel file.
The pretended locking of cells and disabling of sheets can easily be
bypassed after a quick research in the internet. It is getting particu-
larly disastrous if a file is sent to customers or analysts by mistake.

Exceleritis Inefficiensis
With Excel you waste a lot of time and even more valuable resources.
Many colleagues are very skilled and have university degrees. And
they should really continuously align Excel sheets?
Is that modern application of information technology?
No way! Very often colleagues are involved in the debugging process,
which just wastes additional brainpower. If you take into account
what reasonable and value adding activities these people could have
done during that time the economic feasibility deteriorates even
further. Because it is tricky to value these opportunity costs the low
efficiency of these procedures are very often not completely per-
ceived.
[In-ef-fi-cien-sis: Waste of valuable intellectual work through
activities with no or low value creation ]
12. ExceleritisInfectiousAgents
08 Exceleritis Non Scalabilis
If spreadsheets grow significantly two main drawbacks arise:
(1) The performance is declining and (2) changes of the structure
are getting even more time-consuming and jeopardise the entire
creation. People still produce Excel files that only open within
minutes. Whoever dares to clean up these calculations needs a lot of
courage and time. Moreover, the usage and maintenance of stan-
dardises structures are impeded or even made impossible.
At this stage, it is worth to ask yourself if your own business model
doesn’t scale because it is built on non-scalable technical structures.

13. TherapiesandResults
If you notice the symptoms mentioned above it is time to act. Don’t
meddle with Excel files any more! It is time for a professional solution
employing a database! If you shall run the application within your
own firewalls or in the cloud can be best decided after consulting a
qualified partner like CONJECT. You then even benefit from the
decades of international industry experience of the company and its
employees. Thus you can heal the current problems and ease the
daily pain.

foundation for connection to other applications via inter-
faces and can realise system integration.
Rock-solid calculations
The logic for all calculations and reports is fixed and can’t be
changed. As a consequence, the results are correct and
traceable.
Up-to-date forecasts
As all information is entered into one single system all
planned and actual values can be easily reported with a
defined algorithm and used to calculate the forecast at
project end at any time.
Automatic consolidation
Data of single projects or real estate assets are automatically
consolidated according to their categories and can be
reported on portfolio or company level.

Having data stored in appropriate database
structures enables you to run a flexible and
immediate reporting. The different requirements of
various recipients regarding content and depth can
be realised easily and quickly.
Standardisation
Consistently used fields and structures facilitate the
data entry and allow the determination of standar-
dised key performance indicators with which you
can calculate future projects.
Direct accessibility
Information is not spread over various computers
but available to the entire company. By employing
a roles and rights system all internal and external
participants can be seamlessly involved in all
processes.
