The stock market fell sharply on Friday due to renewed recession fears. Major news and data reports caused investors to worry the economy could be headed for a recession.
AIG reported a record $5.3 billion loss due to huge writedowns from bad mortgage investments. Their shares dropped 7%. Dell also missed earnings targets and warned of weak customer spending, dropping their stock 1.5%. Reports said a bailout of bond insurer Ambac was facing problems, sending their stock down 7.5%.
Economic data also fueled recession concerns. A report on Midwest manufacturing fell more than expected to a six-year low, indicating weakness in that sector. Consumer sentiment declined to its lowest

Abstract
This article provides a brief introduction to behavioral finance. Behavioral finance encompasses
research that drops the traditional assumptions of expected utility maximization with rational
investors in efficient markets. The two building blocks of behavioral finance are cognitive
psychology (how people think) and the limits to arbitrage (when markets will be inefficient).
The growth of behavioral finance research has been fueled by the inability of the traditional
framework to explain many empirical patterns, including stock market bubbles in Japan, Taiwan,
and the U.S.

Behavioral Finance
1. Introduction
Behavioral finance is the paradigm where financial markets are studied using models that
are less narrow than those based on Von Neumann-Morgenstern expected utility theory and
arbitrage assumptions. Specifically, behavioral finance has two building blocks: cognitive
psychology and the limits to arbitrage. Cognitive refers to how people think. There is a huge
psychology literature documenting that people make systematic errors in the way that they think:
they are overconfident, they put too much weight on recent experience, etc. Their preferences
may also create distortions. Behavioral finance uses this body of knowledge, rather than taking
the arrogant approach that it should be ignored. Limits to arbitrage refers to predicting in what
circumstances arbitrage forces will be effective, and when they won't be.
Behavioral finance uses models in which some agents are not fully rational, either
because of preferences or because of mistaken beliefs. An example of an assumption about
preferences is that people are loss averse - a $2 gain might make people feel better by as much as
a $1 loss makes them feel worse. Mistaken beliefs arise because people are bad Bayesians.
Modern finance has as a building block the Efficient Markets Hypothesis (EMH). The EMH
argues that competition between investors seeking abnormal profits drives prices to their
“correct” value. The EMH does not assume that all investors are rational, but it does assume that
markets are rational. The EMH does not assume that markets can foresee the future, but it does
assume that markets make unbiased forecasts ...
The stock market fell sharply on Friday as weak economic data renewed recession fears. Manufacturing and consumer sentiment numbers came in below expectations, indicating continued weakness. AIG reported a record $5.3 billion loss due to mortgage investments. The bailout of bond insurer Ambac hit obstacles, further worrying investors. Rising oil prices, a slumping dollar, and signs of inflation pressure added to the gloomy outlook. All 30 Dow stocks declined as investors fled to safer havens.

- Insurance giant AIG reported a record $5.3 billion loss, driven by huge writedowns from bad mortgage investments. Its large loss added to concerns about the financial sector.

Follow-up notes:
We may get a pop up if the US Supreme Court overturns the Obama RBC, Regal-Beloit. Consider covering short.
healthcare plan. The basis of that decision is would be unconstitutional to
force all Americans to buy a pre-packaged health care plan. The companies that would benefit from an overturned decision are the largest companies
like Wal-mart, Costco, Home Depot, Target and many others.
This is one of the biggest reasons why Fortune 500 companies CEO’s are citing as an “unknown” in their business planning. The other is the tax
overhaul that Obama vows he will change in 2013, if he is re-elected. The rebound from an overturned decision may spark a fairly strong rally before
fizzling and being overcome by the weight of Europe.
Later this fall, the presidential election would be the other deciding factor for the largest employers to make business decisions. It is very conceivable
that these two factors of a Republican president and an overturned healthcare plan would be a catalyst for a rally of some sort in spite of the bear
forecasters for global markets. The US could start its own economic recovery strong enough to overcome the fear of a European recession and at some
point investors will start to be immune to the same old fear factor from Europe.
In the meanwhile, you might consider taking some of the profits in the short positions as they mature the next 1-2 days in anticipation of a strong pop up
in the markets on the Supreme Court decision due out this Thursday at the latest but could come as early as tomorrow.
Most recent list of “Market worries”:
1. Greece bailout and possible exit; Greece complains they want Spain’s deal; Greece vote this weekend.
2. Spain bailout proposal being criticized as creating more problems in future; Spain asking IMF for money now.
3. Next news bomb: Italy likely going to need help but not in news lately
4. Germany is Europe’s financial leader; says they pay biggest percentage of bailouts; must be weighing options.
5. European recession very likely to start
6. China's softening of economy or hard landing?
7. US economic data choppy; jobs market weak.
8. US Presidential election, momentum shifting toward Romney = Bullish
9. Apathy in retail investors
10. US Housing recovery not strong yet
1
2. 11. Brazil economy stalling
12. Money is flowing into US dollar, US Treasuries and German government securities.
13. US economic policy not repairing economy.
14. Current US president not strong leader; creating more debt
15. India economy sharply pulling back now; just starting to hit news.
16. No serious discussion on US budget among politicians; Bernanke warns this as biggest fiscal cliff.
17. French President Hollande leaning heavily to the left toward spending and increasing taxes; not working well with Germany’s Merkel.
18. Healthcare costs and tax structure for US companies unclear; US Supreme Court decision due week as late as Thursday 6-28-2012.
19. France being suggested as next European country to have financial problems.
20. Low volume summer trading.

7
8. indicator for NinjaTrader? Could someone tell me how to get started

available
[08:57 am] gregsemple2003 : ah ok, ty apple
[08:59 am] victor51 : Mitch, LNCR was even hotter than HZNP. Is
that stock always volatile?
[09:00 am] eyes : please post thoughts on lncr
[09:02 am] gregsemple2003 : the CCI is new to me, i watched
mitch's videos with the MACD and stochastics to identify entries...
how to identify entries with the CCI/volume?
[09:04 am] Ed : needs to break out of this range eyes
[09:05 am] doji : Back I missed the whole run in SLB....agggh
[09:05 am] apple : jsn, if looked at LNCR chart when MK alerted. on
1 min and you were ready to make a decision, there was inc. vol at
9:36, :37, I would have entered on that 9:36 or 9:37 candle, range
on 1st 26.54-37
[09:05 am] apple : doji there will be another...
[09:05 am] doji : Oil gaping up
[09:07 am] apple : jsn, one potential target would be at 28.21 which
on daily is where it gapped down and the range for that day was
28.21-29.03 which could have been another target
[09:07 am] apple : which is where it began to consolidate
[09:07 am] eyes : i am out -34
[09:08 am] doji : Missed ORLY long also
[09:08 am] apple : there will be more...
[09:09 am] doji : Not my day definetely....multitasking is not helping
[09:10 am] apple : just sit back, then, relax and observe

[09:11 am] eyes : See you all monday Good Luck to all
[09:11 am] doji : I think I'll follow shark advise: trade options....not
need to stick my face on the screen the entire day

[09:12 am] apple : buy eyes, have a great weekend, glad you are
back in the saddle again
[09:13 am] doji : LNKD spike in price and volume
[09:14 am] apple : thx doji
[09:16 am] apple : greg, the CCI acts like a bollinger band
[09:18 am] gregsemple2003 : ok, so basically read it to see
consolidations
[09:20 am] gregsemple2003 : i mean, times where the market is
quiet then starts to head in a certain direction?
[09:20 am] gregsemple2003 : thx for answering n00b questions btw
:)
[09:22 am] Ed : also good for detecting divergence
overbought/oversold, good for reversals
[09:22 am] apple : agree
[09:22 am] gregsemple2003 : ah, gotcha thanks
[09:24 am] apple : confirmation, on TS it colors the dips to indicate
a change
[09:26 am] jsn13 : LNKD breakout
[09:27 am] apple : MK do you think CMEDY is a BS candidate

[09:35 am] apple : jsn, i thought you waiting for the short...
[09:36 am] jsn13 : i got the breakout....so did not want to short

[09:38 am] doji : ok
[09:38 am] apple : above

9
10. [09:49 am] Ed : c ys cdougan

would benefit per Cramer
[09:50 am] Ed : we shall see

better than ARNA?
[10:03 am] doji : down
[10:03 am] apple : thx E bought some OREX akready moved .50
[10:03 am] Ed : VVUS trials were much better than ARNA
[10:04 am] doji : has dropped $1 fro his peak already
[10:04 am] Ed : Also, Im sure as a hedge due to folks who short
ARNA, went long VVUS/OREX to soften the blow
[10:06 am] eddy : surprisin that arna is still halted
[10:06 am] Ed : not saying they did, but it would be a good hedge if
u were short on ARNA
[10:07 am] jsn13 : apple where did u went long on OREX?
[10:08 am] apple : just after E mentioned it -- got it at 4.56
[10:08 am] doji : Jason, as long as the news on ARNA was released
for sure
[10:08 am] doji : as soon as
[10:09 am] jsn13 : apple, enter at the break of hod?
[10:09 am] jsn13 : doji what do u mean?
[10:10 am] doji : You mean that OREX will benefit from ARNA's
approval so you should have gone long as soon as the news were
released
[10:10 am] doji : forget about your indicators
[10:10 am] apple : truly i was quick, got when i could after E
mentioned it
[10:11 am] jsn13 : ok thanks apple and doji....undersatnd....
[10:13 am] apple : there was a nice little pullback there
[10:14 am] chinhngo : IF ARNA APPROVED SO WHAT IS EXPECT
HIGH PRICE? THANK
[10:14 am] apple : yes
[10:14 am] apple : it would be positive news
[10:15 am] chinhngo : HOW HIGH ARNA CAN REACH
[10:17 am] apple : what do you think? it's most recent high before it
dropped was about 12
[10:18 am] Ed : depends on many factors and its anyones guess
[10:18 am] apple : agree
[10:18 am] doji : Is that a bad tick in LNCR?
[10:18 am] apple : been consolidating since noon
[10:19 am] Ed : yes its bad tick
[10:19 am] apple : nice drop on LNCR
[10:28 am] eddy : Is normal?ARNA still halted?
[10:30 am] khall : it will resume at 1:45 eastern
[10:30 am] apple : thx, khall... have been waiting and waiting

[10:34 am] apple : no in about 11 min
[10:34 am] eddy : ok
[10:35 am] doji : How do you hadnle this trade? Do you just place
your limit orders at several levels so you get filled?
[10:35 am] doji : or just wait until the tarde resumes and place your
"market" order
[10:35 am] doji : Ed, Joey?
[10:35 am] apple : eddy eastern EST time is 3 hours ahead of the
PST time posted in the chatroom
[10:37 am] Ed : different for everyone but I prefer to observe the
action, and see if price will come to me, be it for long/short helps
create relaxed state
[10:38 am] eddy : i will just buy market
[10:38 am] apple : wait for a pullback, E?
[10:38 am] doji : The only concern is my connectivity... I may be
right on the direction and price but with this connectivvity it will be
hard to be filled... we'll see
[10:38 am] apple : then put in a limit order if you feel you need to
[10:39 am] Ed : pulllback or consolidation
[10:39 am] Ed : Like LNCR, it offered different spots to long without
chasing
[10:39 am] doji : That is my plan... just want to get your input
without giving you a pre-conceibed idea
[10:40 am] Ed : great to see how others do the do
[10:40 am] apple : haha, different strokes for different folks
[10:41 am] apple : this like waiting to see a race..
[10:41 am] Ed : oops I need to get my ticket

[10:46 am] khall : geez
[10:46 am] apple : E is the wise man...
[10:49 am] apple : all that anticipation....
[10:53 am] doji : Keep in mind that ARNA was only 1.92 last
October
[10:54 am] doji : perhaps most of the FDA approval is already
priced
[10:55 am] apple : probably
[10:55 am] jsn13 : ed, could u share with us how u trade ARNA if u
do...thanks....
[10:55 am] apple : jsn, he mentioned earlier to wait for a pullback or
consolidation which is what it appears to be doing right now
[10:57 am] jsn13 : ok thanks....
[10:57 am] jsn13 : thats what i was thinking....
[10:57 am] jsn13 : opening of the bar after doji....

[10:59 am] apple : good for you E
[10:59 am] apple : i am waiting for a bigger drop at this point
[10:59 am] doji : Me too Apple
[10:59 am] Ed : I was too, but sometimes when I see certain things I
go automatice
[10:59 am] doji : Lookiging at the tick charts give a clearer picture
[11:00 am] Ed : autmatic
11
12. [11:00 am] apple : and if it doesn't happen - NEXT!
[11:00 am] jsn13 : or a breakout if there is above 12 after
consolidation?
[11:00 am] doji : Volume has dried out
[11:00 am] Ed : it is an advance trade though, one can lose or gain
money quickly
[11:00 am] apple : like i said, next!!!!
[11:01 am] eddy : i lost my shit in thiis trade
[11:01 am] eddy : shirt
[11:01 am] jsn13 : i will juz watch wont take it....

SWI (SWING): 2-7 days INT: Intermediate term position 8 days to several months. Open Price: price paid on opening
long position or price sold on short position. Bold notes on table above represent changes from previous day.
15
16. Current positions are highlighted in yellow. Green colored lines are next probable positions to consider. Red, take action
or watch closely, no color usually were stocks just finished trading or are watching. Realize that opinions about stock
ideas can be changed at a moment’s notice during any trading day without any warning!
IMPORTANT: The notes in this stock list is how I have been writing notes to myself about stocks for 17 years. They are general
guidelines as to how I am approaching a particular stock and conditions may change during the next trading day that ay cause a
change in opinion before the next evening report is written.
Remember not to get too heavy in one sector and gradually move in because it is unrealistic to think we get the exact bottom. We want
to gradually move into this sector and eventually build full size long positions in them that may be swing trades lasting for days or
intermediate trades lasting weeks.
If you spend too much money too quickly, you will run out of ammunition, then get emotionally stressed when stocks are going against
you. If you get too leveraged you may be forced to sell at a loss because you are racking up losses at twice as fast if you are margined
2 to 1and then miss the big move up we are looking for in oil and gas stocks.
Advice: Don’t get leveraged in any one position long or short. Spread your money out between a variety of stocks and the higher
amount of money you are working with, the smaller percentage of money you can afford to trade in one stock position. The main
reasons why people fail to make money in stocks consistently (according to Mitch King):
1. They are too emotional, controlled by greed and fear.
2. Not using a high probability technique to buy and sell (or no technique at all!)
3. Position size is too big in one stock relative to total account value (which is related to #1 above). Not patient or willing to spend enough time to
learn a good trading technique.
4. Expectations are unrealistic to make large amounts of money in a short time period and at the same time violating #1, 2, 3 or 4 above.
Thoughts: Best odds only, be decisive, aggressive, mentally flexible, stay in position size, don’t overtrade and wait a little longer to buy
and wait a little longer to sell. You will find that will make you more money on your trades. Trade what you see, not what you hope for.
Intermediate and swing trades are really important to have trailing stop losses set.
Don’t trade unless the setup is there for you, then use the charts to tell you when the odds are heavily in your favor. Don’t force
anything to work for you, let the setups develop and then take advantage of that. Be patient. Stay in position sizes without letting any
intraday trade represent no more than 10-15% of your total account value. As you build your account, your position size percentage
should get smaller and smaller to lower your risk.
Stop losses: Many people ask about stop losses on intraday trading and my response is that the stops should be wider because they
are stops “just in case” a disaster news event hits the stock. When you follow the technical indicators as I show you on the intraday
scalping tutorials, rarely will a stop loss be hit. The indicators can be used with uncanny accuracy as a forecasting tool so don’t set
your stop losses on the intraday scalping too tight.
Anyone setting tight stops while scalping will consistently lose money on scalping because stocks move around a lot even though they
follow the technical indicators.
Stop losses on swing and intermediate term trades can be sent anywhere from 5-7-10% and trailing stop losses are best.
More thoughts: Keep steady, calm, decisive, aggressive. Have no fear and no greed. Keep looking at what to be doing next in a calm
manner. Don’t focus on the past or beat yourself up what you did or didn’t do or what you should have done. Just keep playing the
next shot, which in this business your next shot could be just sitting on the sideline.
If you have been uncomfortable shorting stocks, which most people are, try to learn this technique, it will be a useful tool in the coming
years.
When several stocks from the same sector are listed, like from the housing industry or steel industry for example, don’t short all of them
unless you are well diversified and it represents a small percentage of your total stock account (in that same account).
Also note that we are in what Martin Pring, PhD explains in his book The All-Season Investor, the business cycles and which one is
good for various financial investments. He would describe that we are in Stage II of the business cycle which is positive for bonds and
stocks but negative for commodities. Sometime in late 2011, we probably approach Stage 3 business cycle with rising inflation and
interest rates, which are usually bad for stocks and bonds.
A couple of technical analysis books you should consider:
Technical Analysis Explained, Martin Pring.
Technical Analysis from A to Z, Achelis
Technical Analysis for the Financial Markets, John Murphy.
Put the odds in your favor and have a great day!
