Introduction
Due to high demand for such an event, I decided to organize a day for Cascadia’s international
students to play indoor/arena soccer. During the fall, I would often times hear students in our
office’s lounge asking questions such as, “when can I try out for the school soccer team?” and,
“when is soccer season for Cascadia’s team?” These questions were all answered with the same
response, “there is no soccer team here at Cascadia, sorry.” In order to meet the demands of
students in the best way possible, I immediately placed a soccer-based event into my winter
iConnect event proposal as my only off campus activity.
Summary of Marketing and Event Preparations
To ensure the best success possible, I gave myself three weeks to promote and prepare this
specific event. I used the following marketing communication tactics to make the operations go
as smoothly as possible:
 Social Media (announce pertinent updates)
o Facebook
o Instagram
 Direct Mass Communication (to invite students in a convenient manner)
o iConnect Weekly (weekly email newsletter)
 Sent to all students from one iConnector (Erin Gayatri)
 Graphic Design (to create an advertising flyer)
o Software used: Paint
 Business-to-Business Networking (to secure a venue and a time/date)
o Representative from Woodinville Indoor Sports: Jeff Halstrom
Summary of the Event
10 students attended this event (6 international students from Cascadia, 3 traditional/domestic
students from cascadia, and 1 from Shoreline Community College who was a friend of a
Cascadia student). Various soccer activities were conducted at Woodinville Indoor Sports which
included:
 Full-field pickup games
 Smaller team mini games
o “World Cup”-there would be five teams of two people all trying to score a goal
and be the “last team standing”.
o Penalty Shootout-This is a one-on-one situation between a player and the goalie
where one shot is taken directly from a designated spot. The first team to have the
best score/miss ratio out of five shots wins.
o Crossbar Challenge-using the various distance line markers on the field, players
took turns trying to kick the ball through into the air and directly hit the crossbar
at the top part of the goal’s frame.
After the time reservation for field usage was completed, all attendees enjoyed pizza and drinks
from Domino’s Pizza (see “Summary of Financing” for additional detail on paying for the food)

Reflection of the Event
Overall this has been my best event so far. Having taken the non-verbal communication from the
participating students, this was a very fun event. Students, both traditional/domestic and
international got to meet each other, a student from another school was well liked by our
international students, and nobody was harmed. Verbal responses from students resulted in
nothing but positive feedback and lots of thanks for the success of the event. Jeff Halstrom, the
manager at Woodinville Indoor Sports (the venue) had a pleasure doing business with us and
even offered the chance to network with him to get a Cascadia indoor-soccer league setup since
he knows Cascadia students have to do intramurals through UW Bothell.
