The goals are to promote collaboration in science and technology, provide education for young researchers, and mitigate tensions in the region. Originally two options were proposed, but Option I for particle therapy was selected. Over 2017, committees worked on concept studies and the proposal was presented at a forum in January 2018. An intergovernmental steering committee was formed to advance the project. Capacity building efforts are also underway to support its development and establish clinical and research networks.

Sectional dentures for microstomia patients.pptxSatvikaPrasad
Microstomia, characterized by an abnormally small oral aperture, presents significant challenges in prosthodontic treatment, including limited access for examination, difficulties in impression making, and challenges with prosthesis insertion and removal. To manage these issues, customized impression techniques using sectional trays and elastomeric materials are employed. Prostheses may be designed in segments or with flexible materials to facilitate handling. Minimally invasive procedures and the use of digital technologies can enhance patient comfort. Education and training for patients on prosthesis care and maintenance are crucial for compliance. Regular follow-up and a multidisciplinary approach, involving collaboration with other specialists, ensure comprehensive care and improved quality of life for microstomia patients.

13. 5. Program 2016-2018: “Filling in the gaps”
- the gap with our WG members, existing and potential: to continue in the process of
making our membership appealing to the scientific community, and intercept their needs
Creating new opportunities of education and research:
Since Sept 2016, member of the ESC Council on Basic Cardiovascular Science
Associate Partner to help steer the future of computational
biomedicine. This will create the possibility for Working Group
members working in computer modelling to be part of
dedicated initiatives in the next 3 years
14. 5. Program 2016-2018: “Filling in the gaps”
Supporting the presence of young members with specific awards in selected
conferences:
Basic Science Summer School: 2 registrations offered by our WG to young basic scientists
(300 € each).
1° edition of Young Investigators Award in the field of e-
Cardiology (1000 €)
Work in progress: e-Cardiology Young Investigator Award on
cardiovascular modelling (1000 €)
15. Joint WG e-Cardiology ESC – CinC:
Clinical Needs Translational Award (CTA)
• Strong connection between our WG and CinC (Computing in Cardiology)
organization, since our WG was established. Previous denomination of our
WG was in fact reflecting the same as CinC (Computers in Cardiology up to
2012).
• The WG-15 Chairperson is ex-officio member of CinC Board, and since
2014 this has been reciprocated.
• CinC organizes a yearly international conference that constitutes a
reference event for our potential community (biomedical engineers and
cardiologists interested in the IT field)
• In the last years, the participation of cardiologists to CinC has been
declining. The same happens for the participation of cardiology IT
specialists to ESC.
• We think there is the need to create opportunities to increase cross-
fertilization for both communities, with benefits for both.
16. Joint WG e-Cardiology ESC – CinC:
Clinical Needs Translational Award (CTA)
• At the CinC submission (mid-April 2016), authors have to tick special box to apply
for the award and send the 4 pages together with the abstract.
• A panel composed of researchers with a clinically oriented profile will assess the
submitted papers and choose the winner.
• A member of the winning team will have to present the paper at the Plenary
session on the last day of the conference (15 min + 5 min questions).
• In this award, the focus is on the research team (not on the single presenter).
• A cheque (US$500 + € 500) will be given to the winning team at the closing plenary
session, together with a commemorative diploma for each member. Also,
acknowledgement will be given on the ESC WG e-Cardiology website and during
the annual WG e-Cardiology meeting.

17. Clinical Translational Award (CTA) at CinC:
Aim:
to encourage participation
of multidisciplinary
research teams, with
emphasis on the potential
clinical applicability and
impact of the research.
18. 5. Program 2016-2018: “Filling in the gaps”
