Equella and Unicon
• Unicon provides commercial support for Equella as an open
source product
• Unicon is a community member and contributor, we (nor any other
company) ‘own’ Equella as of 6.5
• Community drives roadmap
• Unicon’s Open Source Support subscribers drive Unicon’s
ongoing involvement in the Equella community (sustaining
engineering)
• Ideally, all Equella enhancements / fixes to be contributed
back to the community
Community - Equella 6.5-Stable
• Equella 6.5-Stable was
released last December
• Source, documentation,
addons in Github
• Github Equella Issues is
the primary tracker
• Demo version release on
Github - only core
components
• Free to include the Oracle
DB drivers and Kaltura
integrations

• It’s free - no license needed!
• Security fixes
• Workflow scripting
• Customized email notifications
• Bulk Workflow
• Better support as Open Source

Community - Building Equella
• Need GIT, SBT, and Java
• Straightforward to build via SBT
• Secure a Java signing certificate (optional, but
recommended)
• Choose optional components
• Libraries are pulled down via SBT
• Build via: sbt compile installerZip
Community - Apereo
• Formal Incubation process with Apereo
• Initial Equella Incubation call January 11th
• Exit Criteria:

• Majority of these criteria were met in 2016
• We expect a speedy conclusion

• Each Unicon subscriber increases Unicon’s Sustaining
Engineering (SE) ability
• Unicon subscribers help prioritize SE efforts
• Open an S5 ZenDesk ticket
• Unicon will review and open a Github issue tagged with
‘Unicon SE’
• Anyone can add issues into the Github tracker!

– #229 - Force a reindex when Resource Metadata
ACLs are changed in a collection definition (merged)
– #407 - More detailed Report and Index logging
(merged)
– #377 - More Efficient Item Save (in progress)
