Node Feature Discovery is part of Enhanced Platform Awareness which aims to improve application performance through intelligent workload placement based on platform capabilities. It detects hardware and software features of nodes in a Kubernetes cluster and advertises them as node labels. These labels can then be used to control scheduling and ensure workloads are placed on nodes that meet their requirements. Currently detected features include CPUID, SR-IOV networking, Intel Resource Director Technology, Intel Turbo Boost Technology, IOMMU, SSD storage, NUMA topology, the Linux kernel, and PCI.
