4. Narrative Essay: Felt Pen (Object)
When I am doing my assignment, a clear vision of an object came into my
mind. It is very useful and also can be said as my knight in my college life. It has a
beautiful cylinder shape but it is thinner at the hand griping part. It is 5.6 inches tall
which is a perfect height for me to hold and its body and cover are fully covered with
shimmering grey plastic. For its body, its tip was made of felt and it is supported by
metal collar preventing the tip from fraying. As for its cover, it is also covered with
grey plastic but it is also accompanied by a shiny, sliver metal strip with a slight curve
near the bottom of the strip. What is the object? It is my precious felt pen.
Its task is to write on paper, but that’s not an end. It also produces great
artworks such as comics and architecture drawings. Its smooth grey body coerces
me to hold it and its beautiful stripes around the hand griping part make my hand
feeling comfortable when holding it. It is as light as the lightest family member in
writing tools which is pencil but do not underestimate it by its weight because it is
strong enough to withstand stress and pressure preventing it from breaking apart. I
rely it very much on my art work especially my architecture drawing. It act as my
knight by helping me to finish my artwork and homework on time although it is cool
when I first holding on it especially rushing for assignments where the deadline is
just around the corner but the coolness slowly replaced by warmth when the
assignment has come to an end.
Another things that sooth my feeling the most when I am anxious or
frustrated is the beautiful melody when my nice, elegant Faber- Castell ecco pigment
with its end printed with grey 0.1 skate on the paper. Sometimes it sounds like a long
"boring" orchestra when I am using it to write some of my long essay and homework

5. and sometimes it sounds short and lively like well known song - "Entertainer" when it
is trying to make strokes and short lines.
Almost anything that has bright and nice outlook does not last long as this
phrase is not completely incorrect. Its Faber-Castell logo and its birthplace which is
Germany that printed proudly on its body fades when time flies. Coming down to the
tip of the pen, the inks also drained when times goes and sometimes my foolishness
made the felt tips of its split into two. Furthermore, my carelessness may cause one
part of its body which is the cover of the pen missing! Fortunately its shiny metal strip
made the searching job easy for me. A lovely confession to my felt pen, I am not
complete without you, my pal.
