This document announces a series of public events from May to November 2016 commemorating the centenary of the Battle of the Somme during World War I. The events will explore how the Great War is represented in history, literature, music, and visual culture, and how it is remembered today. They include public talks, a study day in collaboration with Welsh National Opera, an international symposium with scholars from Europe and North America, recitals of WWI songs, a workshop, and a Friday lecture series. The goal is to bring together experts from Cardiff University and partner institutions to investigate responses to the war in Wales and more broadly.

celebrarei is the song from the album viva from the brazillian singer cassiane. One of the best gospel singers. Fecho os olhos pra pensar O quão será maravilhoso A tristeza e a angústia não serão convidadas pra festa Num banquete celestial, eu ali cearei Adorando, exaltando
Capturing the semantics of documentary evidence for humanities researchEnrico Daga
Identifying and curating documentary evidence from textual corpora is an essential part of empirical research in the humanities.
Initially, we discuss "themed" evidence - traces of a fact or situation relevant to a theme of interest and focus on the problem of identifying them in texts. To that end, we combine statistical NLP, background knowledge, and Semantic Web technologies in a hybrid approach. We illustrate the method's effectiveness in a case study of a database of evidence of experiences of listening to music. We also evidence its generality by testing it on a different use case in the digital humanities.
Finally, we ponder the applicability of knowledge extraction techniques to automatically populate a database of documentary evidence and discuss the challenges from the point of view of scientific knowledge acquisition.
The Manhattanville community will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the college during the second annual Valiant Week hosted by the First Year Program and First Year Advisory Committee. Valiant Week begins Monday September 16th and will conclude on Friday September 20th. Here is a complete list of Valiant Week events. For more information please visit http://mville.edu/gps.
