Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and seismic activity are examples of endogenic processes. Volcanic eruptions produce earthquakes through the sudden displacement of lava within or beneath the earth's crust. Earthquakes result from the sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. While intensity measures the strength of shaking or effects of an earthquake at a certain location, magnitude measures the energy released at the earthquake's source.
