 Condition of excessive calcium in the blood
 Develops when body fails to balance intake of calcium
 Can cause disruptions in muscle contraction, hormone
levels and brain functioning
 Prone to post-menopausal women due to their
hyperactive parathyroid gland
 Lung/breast cancer patients, tuberculosis/sarcoidosis
patients
 Taking calcium supplements can also cause this
condition
 Not drinking enough water can cause mild cases of
hypercalcemia
 Little to no symptoms

3. “POLY-DIPSIA”
 Non-medical condition where patient displays
excessive thirst
 Not a disease but evidence of a disease state
 A symptom of anticholinergic poisoing
 Found in diabetic patient’s (initial symptom), or
those who fail to take their anti-diabetic meds
 Can be caused by a change in osmolality of the
extracellular fluids of body, hypokalemia
(decreased blood volume), and other conditions
that create a water deficit, like osmotic diuresis
