EDINBURGH’S world heritage
site has been thrown into crisis
after Unesco admitted it had
“deeply worrying” concerns
over new developments in the
city.
Officials have told the UK
Government of their “strong
concern” about the level of
protection for the Old and
New towns after being lobbied
about a string of controversial
projects.
The world heritage body
has intervened after a team of
international advisers warned
them of a “significant threat”
from
new developments.
Projects singled out include
controversial schemes already
approved, including the St
James Centre overhaul and the
New Waverley development.

sue the council after sliding
on tram tracks and suffering
broken bones, strains and liga-

being represented by Thomp-
