This document discusses using natural language processing (NLP) techniques to extract information from clinical notes. It describes past challenges that aimed to extract disease status and medication information, achieving 95-97% and 80% accuracy respectively. Successful approaches involved building clinical term dictionaries, context patterns related to diseases and medications, and domain knowledge to represent complex clinical facts and conditions. The goal is to support clinical data analytics and quality monitoring.

This study compared the antidiabetic effects of methanolic extracts of Abroma augusta leaves and Syzygium
cumini seeds in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Rats were treated with 300 mg/kg of each extract daily for 7
days. Both extracts significantly reduced blood glucose levels and increased body weight compared to
untreated diabetic rats. Histopathological analysis also showed protective effects on tissues. The extracts
were found to have antidiabetic properties similar to the standard drugs metformin and glibenclamide,
suggesting their potential as antidiabetic agents.
This document discusses efforts to promote student independence and self-directed learning. It describes experiments releasing control of lesson plans and activities that had mixed results, with some students thriving and others struggling without structure. It emphasizes developing students' metacognitive skills and self-regulation to support independent learning. Ongoing work includes giving students choice over research topics within a structured process requiring planning, self-evaluation, and developing meta-cognitive abilities. Initial student reactions are mixed, as independent learning provides flexibility but also challenges used to traditional schooling.

The maximum deflection occurs at the beam's midpoint and is given by the equation P L3/48EI. It also discusses analyzing statically indeterminate beams by writing slope and deflection equations with unknown reaction forces and solving for the forces using boundary conditions. An example is provided of calculating the deflection of a beam supported at three points.

The Future of Work - Serial Monogamy, Speed Dating, Commitment IssuesJobvite
There's nothing like the thrill of a new relationship, and a rising generation of star talent likes the rush a new job brings. In today’s workplace everyone is an entrepreneur and employee/employer relationships are switching from everlasting to in-the-moment.
Employees are hyper connected and always positioning themselves for a potential next big move. But instead of looking back at what once was, they’re embracing this new honest style of employee. Hiring managers have begun to develop new strategies for harnessing that energy for the short term, and crafting recruiting tactics to constantly be in touch with a large pool of talented individuals to easily replenish their ranks or grow. They want to get their hands on the talent while it is up for grabs, and are not married to the idea that it needs to last forever.
Dan Finnigan, CEO of Jobvite, will present industry statistics which reveal how serial monogamist employees can actually fuel a company’s growth and innovation.

Global warming is threatening the planet through melting ice caps and rising sea levels. Scientific findings show the arctic regions are melting the fastest and areas like Europe, Alaska, Greenland are at high risk of flooding in the coming years. This is due to multiple factors like pollution depleting the ozone layer, acid rain eroding glaciers faster, and carbon emissions trapping heat. Recent data shows over 200,000 square miles less Arctic ice and melting rates of over 0.25 km of ice thickness per decade, contributing to rising temperatures worldwide.
This document discusses leukemia, a type of cancer that affects thousands of children each year in the United States. It primarily affects children between the ages of 3-15 and can drastically alter their lives. The disease involves an overproduction of abnormal, non-functioning blood cells which collect in the bone marrow and bloodstream. There are two forms, acute and chronic, with acute involving a more rapid overproduction of abnormal cells. Significant efforts have been made to research and cure leukemia through organizations like St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded by Danny Thomas in 1962 to support research for diseases that affect children. The hospital receives over $1 million in daily funding to support its facilities and treatment of over 5,000 patients at a time
The document discusses a charity drive at Pottery Barn stores to raise donations for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Associates are responsible for informing customers about the drive and donation stations have been set up in stores. The hospital, which opened in 1962, specializes in pediatric cancer care and research and has helped increase survival rates for childhood cancers to over 90% thanks to donations. Pottery Barn hopes its charity drive can contribute significantly to the $1.5 million needed daily to run the hospital and help its patients. Associates are encouraged to discuss the drive with customers to support the mission of finding cures and allowing children with leukemia to live fuller lives.

This document discusses managing risk from an insurance agent's perspective. It states that agents must gather information on risks to an insured's assets and entities that could result in significant losses. Insuring valuable or income-generating assets against risks helps protect the insured. Risk is defined as the uncertainty of loss occurring, and insurance only covers pure risks where a loss is possible, not speculative risks where a profit is also possible.
