Mr. Bailey hit a man with his car who had lost his memory. He brought the man, now called the Stranger, home to recuperate. Over time, the Stranger regained some abilities like eating soup, but still did not remember who he was. Fall was delayed on the Bailey's farm until the day the Stranger left, when the weather turned cold and the leaves changed color. It was discovered the Stranger's presence had kept fall from coming, and he returns each year to the farm to usher in the fall season before departing once more.
