4. ● The Elizabethan Era, which lasted from 1558 to 1603,
was a great period in English history. It was named after
Queen Elizabeth I and was known for its remarkable
developments in art, literature, and exploration.
● It's often called the Golden Age because of the amazing
works of art and writing that were created then.
● Famous playwrights like William Shakespeare and
Christopher Marlowe wrote many of their plays during this
period.
● It was a time of great creativity and new ideas, and it had
a big impact on the way people thought and expressed
themselves through words.

These are the main literary features that were reflected in the literature of the Elizabethan Era
1).The New Classicism
The new passion for classical learning was a rich and worthy enthusiasm.
It became a danger to the language. In all branches of literature, Greek
and Latin usages began to force themselves upon English, which was not
totally beneficial. English language gave away its native sturdiness and
allowed itself to be tempered and polished by the new influences.
2).The New Romanticism
Elizabethan romantic quest is, for the magnificent & the
beautiful. Elizabethan age is the first & the greatest period of
romanticism. All these kind of desires were amply fulfilled by
this age.

Drama had to overcome many difficulties in the
Elizabethan Age. One was the closure of the theatres
between the years 1590 to 1593. This problem was
solved in 1594 by the licensing of two troupes.
4)Development of poetry and prose
Poetic production was of great and original beauty
even though it wasn’t as popular as drama. Prose
also rose to a position of first-rate importance and
was acquiring a universal application.
5).Abundance of Output
During the Elizabethan Age, the historical situation encouraged a rich &
healthy production of the literature of all kinds. A lot of interest was
shown in literary subjects. Treaties and pamphlets were written freely
uplifting the quality of the literary output. Much abuse; of a personal and
scurrilous character that were indulged in literary questions became
almost of national importance.

Considered one of the greatest playwrights of
all time, Shakespeare wrote numerous plays
that explored themes such as love, tragedy,
comedy, and human nature.
2). Christopher Marlowe
A contemporary of Shakespeare, Marlowe is
known for his plays such as Doctor Faustus
and Tamburlaine the Great, which helped
shape the Elizabethan theatre.

One of the most important poets of the
Elizabethan era, Spenser wrote the Faerie
Queene, an epic poem that celebrated the
Tudor dynasty and explored themes of chivalry
and virtue.
4). Ben Jonson
After Shakespeare, Jonson emerged as an
identifiable figure in the drama. Though the quality
of work can not be compared to Shakespeare, it is
still of merit that requires an in-depth study.
