Children in Ancient Egypt were expected to learn the trade of their parents. There were many different jobs including scribes, farmers, pyramid builders, merchants, soldiers, and servants. Scribes were very important as they worked closely with the pharaoh, recording important documents, and were the only people who could read and write. Farmers grew vegetables, fruit, and wheat, with some working on the pharaoh's lands. Pyramid builders performed difficult labor constructing pyramids from heavy stones and also made sculptures.
