The document discusses proactive alerting for an eduroam federated network. Currently, alerts are sent weekly via email based on a single day of log data that is around 12 hours old. A new portal is being developed that will allow for near real-time logging to a database, enabling more accurate automated error detection and real-time reports/alerts through a web interface. Further improvements are planned to include configuration checks when sites are added and more details will be provided in a later session.

–Issues at one member's location can affect other organisation's users

–Further improve user experience
●Fix problems before they are tickets

3. Pro-active alerting - new portal

–Working now on our dev server
–Perl script reading the log file
–Storing the variables only
●Enables:
–Dynamic, searchable logs through the browser
–Automated continuous error detection
–Real time reports/alerts in web interface
●More accurate periodic email alerting

4. Pro-active alerting – going further
●All of the below planned for the web GUI
●No plans to increase email frequency
●Checks when saving new configurations
–SMTP email verification
–DNS lookups
–Status server testing
