BOYNTON, JR.<br />79 Wesleyan Avenue<br />Warwick, RI 02886<br />(401) 714-6223<br />Edward.Boynton@uconn.edu<br />OBJECTIVE:To bring broad range of experiences to a special education environment and develop stimulating curricula and educational opportunities.<br />EXPERIENCE:<br />2009 - PresentSpecial Projects Coordinator, Community Outreach, University of Connecticut<br />Supervise all special projects and assist program directors when necessary.<br />Plan and coordinate new community service projects.<br />2009 - PresentMarketing Assistant, The Roper Center, University of Connecticut<br />Actively recruit new members.<br />Provide public relations with colleges both nationally and internationally.<br />Summer, 2008 & 2009Teacher Assistant/Camp Counselor, Trailblazers Program, Kent County YMCA, Warwick, RI<br />Worked closely with a special education teacher and children in grades pre-K through eight who are identified via their IEP (Individual Educational Plan) as having social, emotional, physical, and educational needs. <br />2008 - 2009Team Leader, Jumpstart/Americorps, Work Study Program, University of Connecticut<br />Supervised nine staff members and coordinate specific responsibilities with their assigned partner child. <br />Served as a liaison between staff members and the host school. <br />Planned and implemented effective Jumpstart sessions, facilitated team meetings, and coached Corps members to use developmentally appropriate practices with young children. <br />Engaged in a variety of roles including coach, trainer, observer, administrator and manager.<br />2007 - 2008Corp Member, Jumpstart/Americorps, Work Study Program, University of Connecticut<br />Worked with a partner child encouraging literacy and child development in conjunction with classroom observation. <br />Promoted reading and in-depth discussion. <br />In a large-group setting, led partner child in activities that combined literacy, language and social interaction.  <br />Planned activities that provided opportunities to experiment and solved problems in ways that were meaningful to the partner child. <br />Prepared partner child for kindergarten placement.  In addition, spent two to five hours a week in Classroom Assistance Time (CAT). During this time, provided support not only to the partner child, but also to the classroom teacher. <br />2005 - 2009Wait Staff, Remington House Inn Restaurant, Warwick, RI <br />Set up and cleared tables. Assisted wait staff with preparation and presentation of meals. <br />Developed excellent customer service skills and ability to handle diverse situations.    <br />VOLUNTEER:<br />Fall 2008 & 2009Chair Member, Husky Invitational Classical Soccer Tournament, University of Connecticut<br />Organized Special Olympics opening and closing ceremonies and awards at UConn.<br />Summer 2002-2009Track Clerking Coordinator, Special Olympics State Games, University of Rhode Island<br />Coordinated over 75 volunteers to ensure seamless execution of the event. <br />Summer, 2008Internship, Pathways Strategic Teaching Center, Trudeau Center, Warwick, RI  <br />Observed classroom dynamics and assisted teacher as needed with children with autism and related disorders in this special education and treatment program.<br /> <br />EDUCATION:<br />2007 - PresentUniversity of Connecticut, Storrs, CT.  Special Education Major  <br />Enrolled in The Neag School of Education in the integrated Bachelors/Masters program. <br />Expected Graduation - 2012 with a Masters Degree in Special Education.<br />Current GPA: 3.4.<br />2003 - 2007Toll Gate High School, Warwick, RI<br />Courses in college preparatory including the Early Enrollment Program at Rhode Island College <br />for Spanish V. <br />Rhode Island Honor Society.  <br />Ranked top 15th percentile of the class.  <br />
