I embarked on teaching, as a mature-aged student, after many years in the building and
construction industry working mostly as a self-employed contractor. I have broad
experience teaching across a range of year levels (Yrs 3 to 8) and situations, including
'special needs'. I am an enthusiastic, highly-motivated teacher who always 'value-adds' to
classroom teaching roles.
In late 2004, after graduating from the four-year Bachelor of Education degree program at
Griffith University (Gold Coast), I obtained a permanent position with Education
Queensland (EdQ) in December of that year. I taught at primary schools on the Gold
Coast, Queensland between 2004 and 2010.
In late 2010 my wife's work took her to New Zealand. After being granted leave from
Education Queensland I also headed 'across the ditch', obtained New Zealand teacher
registration (#327679), and was fortunate enough to gain a position as classroom teacher
at Point England School, Auckland, in their newly created 'Intermediate' (Yrs 7/8).
My wife and I now live, for family and work reasons, permanently in Melbourne. From the
beginning of 2014 I have been working in Melbourne as a CRT and in the last half of 2014
completed a 16 week fixed-term contract position in a Yrs 5/6 class at Spotswood Primary
School.
In 2015 I have been working, at various locations across Melbourne's North and West, as
a CRT.
I have current VIT registration (#393233). References, personal and professional, are
available on request.
I look forward to meeting with you to discuss this teaching opportunity.
Regards, Michael Harris.

Teacher
Teaching and Learning Philosophy
All learners do not enter the classroom equally able, I see my role as a teacher to enable
all students in my care to fulfil their potential to live, learn, work and contribute through
empowering them to make informed decisions and become active members of their
community and the wider world.
Profile
I am a thoughtful, dynamic individual with experience teaching primary and junior
secondary students.
I have a strong belief in fostering learning environments that develop learners who are
self-managing problem-solvers and able to work effectively in a team. I value programs
that utilise an inquiry approach and immerse students in authentic, life-like experiences. I
am especially interested in facilitating learners to extend their curiosity through guided
exploration of the world around them.
As the saying goes, 'It takes a village to raise a child' and I value and enjoy working
contributing collaboratively in a professional team. My focus in the classroom is
curriculum delivery that engages, challenges and motivates my students .
Over the years my passion for education has been further enhanced by being part of
close-knit teaching teams – with experience in both multi-age and 'open' teaching
environments -, embracing digital technologies and being part of innovative educational
initiatives, including blended e-learning and 'hands-on' mosaic projects.
Live as if you were to die tomorrow,
Learn as if you were to live forever.
