Successes at Esperanza Center
Recently, our program furthered the
development of the 8-week rotating curriculum. Thanks to Phil Rivera,
our Ignatian Volunteer Corps member, and all the volunteers who
assisted this summer! Registration has already begun for the fall
semester. If the first day is any indication of how the semester will be, it
certainly will be packed! Volunteer-Teacher will be held on
Sunday, September 29 from 1-5pm.
In our program, the highlight of August was a visit from
the Honduran consulate. 203 people came between the hours of 8
AM and 4 PM one Saturday, to obtain assistance from the consulate on
various matters. On a daily basis, the Client Services staff and
volunteers stay busy with school registration questions, translation

Wanted: Spanish
interpreters!
We are creating an email list of fluent
Spanishspeakers who might be available
to interpret/translate. Often times, we have
unexpected, lastminute needs for a
volunteer to translate with a client, possibly
even outside of normal office hours, and
we would love to have a group of people
who we could ask, firstcome, firstserve,
for assistance.

had an exciting summer.
First, the Clinic became a (The Access Partnership) site: a
primary care facility that refers clients residing in specific zip codes to
specialty care through Johns Hopkins. Thanks to a wonderful donor,
Esperanza Center Volunteer Medical Director Dr. Pablo Dibos, we
were able to purchase a beautiful television, to show patient education
movies in the waiting room.
We would like to extend a huge thank-you to Adec, who donated two
sets of brand-new dental chairs (and related equipment) this August.
This donation was also made possible through the efforts of Dr. Michael
Kenney and Dr. Michael Belenky.
