10 milessouthof yelahanka,Shivanasamudra,amudfort wasbuiltto rule the agricultural land.This
was the creationof the shivanasamudraterritory.The fortresswasbuiltaroundthe territory.
The site was at the elevatedridge slopingtowardsthe east.Rockyhillstowardsthe westand
undulatingterraintowardsthe east.Thisdescribedthe geographyasridge andvalley.
OldBangalore wassituatedinthe valleyandnew cityinundulatingarea.Peoplefromoldsitystarted
tradinggoods,weaversof Kanchi totraders of goods
2. 1532 rulerof VijayanagaraAchyutarayaappointedHiriyaKempegowda( founderof the city) asthe
feudatorylord,hisfamilyrulednearYelahankaandwere calledthe YelahankaNadaprabhus

4. Importanttrade routessuch as the Madras-Bhatkal route fromthe east to westcoastsand the
Chitradurga-Dharmapuri route fromnorthtosouthintersectedinthe Bangalore region.
The Yelahanka-dvaraplayedavital role asitwas the mainentrance to the city; all ritualsand
processionsusedtogothroughthisgate.Today, thisisstill done duringthe Karagafestival.
