This document provides an overview of ExtJs, including what it is, where it came from, what it means, what it looks like, and how to get started. ExtJs is a JavaScript library for building rich internet applications using techniques like AJAX. It was originally developed as an extension to YUI but can now also extend jQuery and Prototype. The library supports major browsers and provides customizable UI widgets, components, and tools for building AJAX applications.
Building a Real-World Application with Adobe Flex 2dcoletta
Virtual Ubiquity is building the first real word processor for the web, and we're using Adobe Flex 2 and the Flash Player as the platform. Why did we choose that platform? What does it feel like to an old-school C++ developer? What happens when you try to use it for a real-world app? How do you work around the inevitable problems?

F# is a powerful open-source language which Microsoft, other companies and the F# community all contribute to. In this talk, Don will discuss how the “F# space” has recently opened up significantly in interesting ways. F# now includes contributions that range from Cloud IDE platforms, Cloud Compute frameworks, Data interoperability components, Cross-platform execution, Try F#, MonoDevelop, and even Emacs editor integration with surprising tooling support, as well as the Visual F# tools from Microsoft and the broader NuGet package ecosystem. Don will also talk about some of the latest contributions from Microsoft Research, including new type provider components for F#, and describe how his team work with the Visual F# team and other teams around Microsoft. There will also be demos of some fun new stuff that’s been going on with F# at MSR and the community.
This presentation touches a number of the workshop topics. It will demonstrate systems developed at the Australian Digital Futures Institute for scholarly workflows. It is intended to spark discussion about issues and challenges in taking Scholarship beyond the PDF. It covers the following tasks: (a) managing draft documents and local data sets together, (b) formatting draft documents with as much robust, interoperable semantics as possible, using a word processor, so they can become part of a rich human and machine readable web of research practice and (c) pre-publication collaboration with immediate collaborators and via the web using annotation systems that have potential for use post-publication as well.
Four guiding principles inform the work. To make all resources part of a repository as soon as they are created or acquired. To provide a web view of all resources as early as possible in their production process. To provide a hub from which resources can be pushed to other services – journal review processes, blogs, repositories. And to make interoperable, reusable services, not monolithic systems.
