What is the eLearning Model for Schools?
Over the past decade, students have evolved, and technologies have
changed at a rapid pace. This implies that teachers and their teaching
methods must adapt to this changing environment.
In traditional training, information is limited to that of the teacher and
that you can access. Today students' ability to find and evaluate
information and construct new knowledge is enhanced through the
connection with the outside world. This will open up possibilities that
allow individuals to build new forms of information according to their
needs and learning styles.
With these new technologies, there is a reorientation of school
structures and business processes of the students and their learning
needs. This method is about transformation techniques to accommodate
the transition from the traditional learning to work digitally.
The method improves learning opportunities, innovating learning, in
order to get the best of technology investment in schools. The challenge
is to move to teaching and learning through technology.
Instead of using technology to do old things in a new way, we want to
do things in new ways, using technology to enable and transform
teaching and learning.
There are three main factors that make up this design, digital pedagogy,
digital content and learning spaces.
These components coexist to create the conditions for a new generation
of learning. The training strategy is to create an environment for
learning that connect the personal, family, school and students with real
life. It is intended that the school as a classroom where teachers
eLearning entrenched in digital pedagogy and where you develop a
personalized learning culture.
This vision of eLearning stop schools should be:
• Collaborative, where all staff involved and discuss ideas about
digital learning approaches in schools.
• Challenging, encouraging a culture of high performance.
• Connected, where vision is aligned with other performance
frameworks including Professional Development Framework,
productive pedagogies and professional standards for teachers.
A model or framework of eLearning for schools has been developed with
this vision. This model identifies Pedagogy, Technology and Learning
Spaces, as necessary components.
In this arrangement, each student is clearly in the center of the learning
process. Along with the new information and ways of working, the
student leads the training program where technology and digital
teaching and learning space complement the student's needs.
Additionally there is an intersection between spaces and technology and
spaces and pedagogy.
The intersection between space and technology is a dynamic space
where digital technologies have developed online spaces for training
such as online communities, blogs, wiki, discussion forums, and chat,
among others.
In this model, it is necessary the relationship between learning spaces
and digital pedagogy, technology, new data and student. An effective e-
learning is only possible when the physical learning spaces are
integrated with a virtual pedagogy and digital technology.
Students are at the core of this structure. Schools must know who they
are, how they learn, what their origins, their prior knowledge, skills,
abilities and interests. The work of teachers is developed based on the
student, the content they teach, the pedagogy used, and the technology
they use.
Content is the second layer in this structure and represents the
knowledge, understanding and the ways that teachers and students
learn.
Pedagogy is developed the most effective methods and instructional
strategies in order to facilitate student learning. The pedagogy depends
on the student and the content, methods and instructional strategies
that are used depending on who is learning what.
Learning spaces define the spaces more conducive to learning, covering
the time and place in which students learn.
The technology is the ability to use and leverage a range of different
tools and resources to enhance and support student learning.
What is digital pedagogy?
Digital pedagogy is a way of working to improve instruction of students.
This pedagogy is defined as the convergence of technical information ,
teaching practices and understanding of curriculum design suitable for
digital students . Digital Pedagogy transforms teaching and learning by
offering new learning opportunities . It provides the basis for engaging
students in the active construction of learning.
The digital pedagogy program incorporates current teaching learning
strategies . It has custom approaches , intellectual rigor and
commitment , connection to global contexts , classroom environments
and collaborative support and clear alignment of curriculum, assessment
and reporting to improve student outcomes .
When a teacher demonstrates effective digital pedagogy , digital
technologies become an invisible part of the learning environment , a
movement of "conscious competence" to unconscious competence" in
the use of technology for teaching and learning.
The digital pedagogy program cannot be viewed separately from the
learning spaces or digital content programs. Teachers need to
understand the ways in which students will learn in a digital
environment.
A key factor is improving the digital literacy of students. Computer
literacy is essential for students to be creative and productive and feel
safe in the digital world. It is also vital that students understand the
impact of technology on society. Digital literacy can access, manage,
integrate and evaluate information, develop forms of communication
with others in order to participate effectively in society.
Students work digitally to:
• Deepen knowledge and its creation through searches, interaction
with communities of people and experts.
• Build ideas, training solutions, products and plans through creative
techniques.
• Communicate and share in local and global environments.
• Develop a new understanding, practice in order to support
continued growth.
What is the Digital Content?
Digital content consists of two main components - resources and Digital
Curriculum.
The digital curriculum is a curriculum designed in a digital environment.
This depends on teaching pedagogy, adding value to the learning
process.
Digital content is built on the basis of:
• The development of high-quality resources.
• Remove obstacles in the development of student and teacher, allowing
contributions.
• Audit and encourage schools to develop and share knowledge in key
areas of the curriculum.
What are learning spaces?
Learning spaces are based on where students can create online learning
spaces and use digital tools adapted to their needs and purposes.
The process puts training property in the hands of educators and
students, allowing the creation of formal and informal spaces to plan,
build, innovate, share and learn.
Traditionally, it was considered that learning spaces correspond to a
physical location in which learning takes place. However, with the arrival
of digital technologies in educational settings has redefined the concept
of learning space to include virtual spaces, remote and online
communities in which students learn.
Building a vision for eLearning in Schools
An efficient eLearning strategy requires a strong vision; the school must
believe that technology can accelerate , turn , enhance and transform
learning opportunities for students at all stages of training.
This vision should focus on:
• Leadership, planning and decision making.
• The use of the infrastructure, space, resources and curricula
• The development of the capacity of the workforce.
In this training model is intended that students will be able to:
• Demonstrate creativity and curiosity.
• To be self- directed, working independently, in collaboration and
cooperation with other students.
• Continuously improve communication and collaboration skills.
• Be able to investigate and have the information fluently.
• Demonstrate responsibility and adaptability.
• Develop skills to design, create, share and create a space for
critical thinking.
On the other hand, teachers must understand the transformative role of
technology in the curriculum, the teaching and learning of students.
They must also be willing to take risks, fail and explore new areas
outside their experience, and ultimately collaborate with colleagues in
order to consolidate this new method.
Schools must demonstrate leadership and vision, including support
policies. Schools are looking for:
• Arrange a Workforce trained on the new aspects of digital
pedagogy.
• Develop a culture of innovation support.
• Arrange physical learning spaces and virtual learning allowing
unrestricted by barriers of time or place.
• Keep classrooms where technology is used to train and engage
students to participate in the learning process.
• Develop training student-centered and project-based.
• Define a process of study where instruction and assessment are
aligned, in order to improve learning opportunities for students.
• The curriculum plan includes the evaluation, reporting.
• Develop digital content by teachers and students to learn and
share.
• Define Digital Curriculum based on a curriculum approved and a
clear idea of teaching support.
The world is changing, and the new design of eLearning is available for
schools to adapt their training methods to the new demands of the
students.
