The Duomo di Milano is one of the most famous buildings in Europe and the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. It was built on the site of Saint Ambrose's "New Basilica" in the 5th century, which was later rebuilt along with an adjoining basilica as the Duomo after both buildings were damaged by fire in 1075.
