Saint Tukaram was a 17th century Marathi poet born in 1608 near Pune, Maharashtra. He was initiated in a dream by Raghava Caitanya Kesava Caitanya and received the mantra "Jai Jai Ram Krishna Hari". Due to his intense devotion to Lord Vithal, he composed many devotional songs called kirtans. Tukaram left his body in 1650 in a miraculous way, with a celestial airplane arriving to take him to the spiritual world.
