Papillon.

4. WhenIbroughtthiseight-week-oldbundleofjoyhome,Ididn’tknowwhatto
callher. I’mnotverygoodatnaminganything,soIusuallyjustobservefora
coupleofweeksandlettheanimalnameitselfbyitspersonality. Thispuppy’s
namebecameevidentinnothingflat:Tazzie.Shewhirledaroundthehouse,
jumpinguponfurniturefivetimeshersize,zoomingandzippingandtotally
charmingme.Shewas,indeed,aTasmaniandevilpup. Iquicklyrealizedthe
athleticismofthisdogandknewI’dhavetofindhera“job”whenshegota
littleolder.High-drivedogs,thatdon’thave“jobs,”willcertainlyfindother
outletsfortheirenergyandthoseoutletsaren’tusuallythingsyouwould
enjoy!

5. You already have a burning love for your puppy, but what is your
relationshiplike?Doesitcomewhenyoucallit?Doesitsitorlayorstay?From
yourfirstclass,atyourdogtrainingschool,yourrelationshipwithyourdog

school,sogoingtoclasswasfunaswell.Shegottowhereshewouldwhine,as
soonaswepulledintheparkinglot,untilIfinallygotheroutofthatcar.

7. Sonowyou’retakingyourdogtoclassesinaplacetheylove,andyou’re
workingwiththemeveryday. Duringthattime,you’repayingcomplete
attentiontothem,teachingthemtopaycompleteattentiontoyou,andthey
gettheirfavoritefoodasicingonthecake.Thisdoesincrediblethingsforthe
bondbetweenyouandyourdog.Theylearntofocusonyou,nomatterwhat,
andgoodthingswillcome.Theygetpraisedandfed,orpraised and allowed
to tug on a toy, whichever motivates the dog more, so yourrelationship
can’thelpbutblossom.

8. EversinceTazzieandIstartedtrainingtogether,shehasclaimedmeasher
own.Whenmyothertwodogswanttositonmylap,she’llpushthemoutof
thewaytogetthebestspotbecause,Iamherproperty,asfarasshe’s
concerned.Idogivetheotherdogspersonaltimeaswell,butIhavetoputher
inasit/stayoradown/staysoshe’llletthemcomegetlove.

9. Sheis,byfar,theoneIcantrustthemost,notonlybecauseofhertraining,but
fromthebondwegainedthroughthetraining.Shenevertakeshereyesoffof
me,sincewebeganatourdogtrainingschool,anditservesuswellinthe
agilityring!

10. Ifyouwanttoforeveralterandsolidifythebondyousharewithyourdog,find
yourselfagooddogtrainingschool,forwhateverdisciplineyouprefer,andgo
forit. Withalittletime,money,andpatience,yourrelationshipwillbecomea
