Disstracks
AN EMERGENCE OF A NEW GENRE
1
A background into Disstracks
 Although Disstracks are emerging quite recently, the
concept is not too new. In fact the concept can be
dated to 1996 when 2Pac decided to ‘diss’ Biggie in
the song “Hit ‘Em Up”. This song is still known as
one of the most famous Disstrack as it was released
after 2Pac realised that Biggie tried to get him shot.
The track featured lyrics such as “oh Who shot me,
but your punks didn't finish
Now you about to feel the wrath of a menace”

An addition to the Disstrack timeline
 One of the next best known Disstracks in the timeline is
Eminem’s on Mariah Carey, ‘The Warning’ (2009). The
reason Eminem decided to make a disstrack on Mariah
Carey is because he claimed that he had a relationship with
her, which she later denied infront of an audience on the
Larry King show. Mariah claimed that she had “Spoke to
him a few times” and even decided to make a puppet of
him to make a joke out of him on her show.
 The argument continued for countless years until Eminem
finally decided to make a disstrack. This track is still today
regarded as one of the most hard hitting disstracks.
Eminem also decided to leak personal information
including stories about there sex life as well as voicemails.

Modern day Disstracks
 Today disstracks have changed dramatically, in what could be
argued to be for the worst. Taylor Swift has decided to join the
scene with “Look What You Made Me Do”, taking a swipe at
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian whilst Youtube has grown to
the point that Youtubers have enough social influence to start
making disstracks; even if they are not considered to be an
‘Artist’. Disstracks were brought in to fashion again by a
Youtuber called Ricegum whilst being used heavily by a group
of Youtubers called The Sidemen. The Sidemen brought in a
‘New’ era of disstracks where there is no real argument and
everything is fabricated and faked just solely for monetary gain.
All of The Sidemen and people who revolve around them are
actually close friends in real life. The problem with a lot of these
Youtubers are that over the years they developed an audience
suited for a young teen audience before drastically changing,
starting to say things such as "You evolved into the first male
with t*ts". These Youtubers have so much social influence that
many of there songs are being seen and listened to by an
audience much larger than the ones listening to ‘real’ artists
who only focus on music.
