This document summarizes a study that analyzed Twitter streaming data to detect social hot topics and perform geographic clustering. The study collected over 19 million geo-tagged tweets from the US and stored them in MongoDB. It then defined a ratio of word frequencies to identify increasing and decreasing keywords as indicators of social topics of the day. Analyzing this ratio over time revealed topics like weather, US law, sports, and Easter. Geographic clustering of topic-related tweets also reflected real-world events like a spring storm's path. The study demonstrated how social media data can detect emerging hot topics and geographic patterns of discussion.

Using Complex Network Analysis for PeriodizationDmitry Zinoviev
Periodization is the process of categorizing the past into discrete, contiguous, quantified, and named blocks of time and the results of such a process. I propose to model historical states as complex networks and use complex network analysis (CNA) for periodization.

In this study an attempt is made to investigate the scholarly communications in College & Research Libraries journal during the period of 1997-2011 and to study the key dimensions of its publication trends. For the analysis of the study 15 volumes containing 90 issues have been taken up for evaluation. Necessary bibliometric measures are applied to analyse different publication parameters. It is found that, contributions of articles to each volume of College & Research Libraries is nearly consistent and on an average 32 articles have been published every year. Single authored articles are found to be the highest followed by two and three authored articles. The average degree of collaboration in College & Research Libraries is 0.57. The average author per article is 1.88 for 479 articles. Lotka’s law is tested and confers to a value of n=3.22. In all 12893 citations have been appended to 479 articles during the period 1997-2011. Journals (59.95 per cent) are the top form of source used by authors followed by books (17.32 per cent), webpages (7.44 per cent) and reports (3.95 per cent). Ranked list of prolific authors and ranked list of journals is prepared and presented in respective tables. Deborah D Blecic and Stephen E Wiberley have topped the ranked list of prolific authors with 6 articles each. College & Research Libraries which is also the source journal of this study has topped the ranked list of journals with 1311 (16.96 per cent) citations. USA has topped the list of ranking of country productivity with 93.24 per cent contributions followed by Canada and China.
From Virtual Museums to Peacebuilding: Creating and Using Linked KnowledgeCraig Knoblock
Companies, such as Google and Microsoft, are building web-scale linked knowledge bases for the purpose of indexing and searching the Web, but these efforts do not address the problem of building accurate, fine-grained, deep knowledge bases for specific application domains. We are developing an integration framework, called Karma, which supports the rapid, end-to-end construction of such linked knowledge bases. In this talk I will describe machine-learning techniques for mapping new data sources to a domain model and linking the data across sources. I will also present several applications of this technology, including building virtual museums and integrating data sources for peacebuilding.

Automatically Selecting Striking Images for Social CardsShawn Jones
To allow previewing a web page, social media platforms have developed social cards: visualizations consisting of vital information about the underlying resource. At a minimum, social cards often include features such as the web resource's title, text summary, striking image, and domain name. News and scholarly articles on the web are frequently subject to social card creation when being shared on social media. However, we noticed that not all web resources offer sufficient metadata elements to enable appealing social cards. For example, the COVID-19 emergency has made it clear that scholarly articles, in particular, are at an aesthetic disadvantage in social media platforms when compared to their often more flashy disinformation rivals. Also, social cards are often not generated correctly for archived web resources, including pages that lack or predate standards for specifying striking images. With these observations, we are motivated to quantify the levels of inclusion of required metadata in web resources, its evolution over time for archived resources, and create and evaluate an algorithm to automatically select a striking image for social cards. We find that more than 40% of archived news articles sampled from the NEWSROOM dataset and 22% of scholarly articles sampled from the PubMed Central dataset fail to supply striking images. We demonstrate that we can automatically predict the striking image with a Precision@1 of 0.83 for news articles from NEWSROOM and 0.78 for scholarly articles from the open access journal PLOS ONE.
Homogeneity of Community Areas in ChicagoRaed Mansour
A presentation by Jonathon Prehn, Elmhurst College
at the Chicago Public Health GIS Network Meeting on March 15, 2019.
This study investigates how the assumption that Community Areas contain their own homogenous social groups holds throughout the decades of their use. Community areas have been used for boundaries for aggregating data throughout the years. However, when one aggregates data, there is the assumption of homogeneity within the boundary. The violation of this assumption leads to the Modifiable Areal Unit Problem (MAUP), one of the most well-known phenomenon in geography. The community areas of Chicago is a special delineation first introduced by the University of Chicago’s Local Community Research Committee between 1924 and 1930, however, speculation is considerable that homogeneity no longer exists within most of these designated areas. Ten Community Areas were selected for this research, and spatial statistical tests such as the Local Indicator for Spatial Autocorrelation (LISA) were applied for determining homogeneity across five decades of demographic census data. The results provide evidence that the community areas of Chicago are no longer viable as boundaries for social science research, for descriptive statistics on demographic data would not accurately represent the population residing in the defined area. Significantly, these community areas are still used in tabulation of health statistics by The Chicago Department of Public Health and in recent sociological research.

ABSTRACT: Although a significant amount of literature exists on Morocco's migration policies and their
successes and failures since their implementation in 2014, there is limited research on the integration of subSaharan African children into schools. This paperis part of a Ph.D. research project that aims to fill this gap. It
reports the main findings of a study conducted with migrant children enrolled in two public schools in Rabat,
Morocco, exploring how integration is defined by the children themselves and identifying the obstacles that they
have encountered thus far. The following paper uses an inductive approach and primarily focuses on the
relationships of children with their teachers and peers as a key aspect of integration for students with a migration
background. The study has led to several crucial findings. It emphasizes the significance of speaking Colloquial
Moroccan Arabic (Darija) and being part of a community for effective integration. Moreover, it reveals that the
use of Modern Standard Arabic as the language of instruction in schools is a source of frustration for students,
indicating the need for language policy reform. The study underlines the importanceof considering the
children‟s agency when being integrated into mainstream public schools.

ABSTRACT: This research aims to examine how ESG disclosure and risk disclosure affect the total risk of
companies. Using cross section data from 355 companies listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange, data regarding
ESG disclosure and risk was collected. In this research, ESG and risk disclosures are measured based on content
analysis using GRI 4 guidelines for ESG disclosures and COSO ERM for risk disclosures. Using multiple
regression, it is concluded that only risk disclosure can reduce the company's total risk, while ESG disclosure
cannot affect the company's total risk. This shows that only risk disclosure is relevant in determining a
company's total risk.

The Challenges of Good Governance and Project Implementation in Nigeria: A Re...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT : This study reveals that systemic corruption and other factors including poor leadership,
leadership recruitment processes, ethnic and regional politics, tribalism and mediocrity, poor planning, and
variation of project design have been the causative factors that undermine projects implementation in postindependence African states, particularly in Nigeria. The study, thus, argued that successive governments of
African states, using Nigeria as a case study, have been deeply engrossed in this obnoxious practice that has
undermined infrastructure sector development as well as enthroned impoverishment and mass poverty in these
African countries. This study, therefore, is posed to examine the similarities in causative factors, effects and
consequences of corruption and how it affects governance, projects implementation and national growth. To
achieve this, the study adopted historical research design which is qualitative and explorative in nature. The
study among others suggests that the governments of developing countries should shun corruption and other
forms of obnoxious practices in order to operate effective and efficient systems that promote good governance
and ensure there is adequate projects implementation which are the attributes of a responsible government and
good leadership. Policy makers should also prioritize policy objectives and competence to ensure that policies
are fully implemented within stipulated time frame.

Exploring Factors Affecting the Success of TVET-Industry Partnership: A Case ...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to explore factors affecting the success of TVET-industry
partnerships. A case study design of the qualitative research method was used to achieve this objective. For the
study, one polytechnic college of Oromia regional state, and two industries were purposively selected. From the
sample polytechnic college and industries, a total of 17 sample respondents were selected. Out of 17
respondents, 10 respondents were selected using the snowball sampling method, and the rest 7 respondents were
selected using the purposive sampling technique. The qualitative data were collected through an in-depth
interview and document analysis. The data were analyzed using thematic approaches. The findings revealed that
TVET-industry partnerships were found weak. Lack of key stakeholder‟s awareness shortage of improved
training equipment and machines in polytechnic colleges, absence of trainee health insurance policy, lack of
incentive mechanisms for private industries, lack of employer industries involvement in designing and
developing occupational standards, and preparation of curriculum were some of the impediments of TVETindustry partnership. Based on the findings it was recommended that the Oromia TVET bureau in collaboration
with other relevant concerned regional authorities and TVET colleges, set new strategies for creating strong
awareness for industries, companies, and other relevant stakeholders on the purpose and advantages of
implementing successful TVET-industry partnership. Finally, the Oromia regional government in collaboration
with the TVET bureau needs to create policy-supported incentive strategies such as giving occasional privileges
of duty-free import, tax reduction, and regional government recognition awards based on the level of partnership
contribution to TVET institutions in promoting TVET-industry partnership.

Conclusion
• The ratio of word frequency properly detected social hot
topics of the day by identifying increasing or decreasing
frequency of keywords in Twitter messages,
• while supressing the non-topic keywords such as frequencly
tweeted emotional words (e.g., lol, like, and love).
• The social topic detection method may be applied on a
different time scale, e.g., hourly, monghly, or yearly.
• The geographic clustering based on a social topic
appropriately reflected not only the patyway of spring storm
but also the properties of US geography.
