DISCIPLINE
OF TIME
TRUTHS ABOUT TIME
God gave us life : God gave us time.
Time as in our ‘lifetime’ is ‘borrowed’
time. – can be retrieved by God anytime
according to His plan for us.
We are only stewards of God’s lent time –
we should put it in proper use,
according to His plan.
Our situation in these modern times
drives us away from how
the Lord wants us to spend our ‘time’.
We always say and feel that there
are so many things to do with
so little time
Our choices are always based on what is
easy and pleasurable
versus what is difficult but Holy
Our priorities are distorted:
‘I am too busy to pray, to read the Bible,
or fulfill my covenant with the Lord’
What is Discipline of Time?
-putting in proper order the use of time
in our daily lives; and with the guidance
of the Holy Spirit, be able to:
1. Set our priorities
Based on the guidance of the Holy Spirit,
which things must I do, accomplish, buy,
go to, finish (etc.) first?
Which is next?
What we need is Discipline of Time
Based on your discernment,
You should be able to resolve your
daily personal ‘clash’ of priorities.
Where must I go first,
to the Chapel or the market?
Which one must I attend to first,
the 1st Friday Mass or have fun with my friends?
Must I just spend time with my kids
or attend the Saturday Breakfast?
Remember the story of Martha and Mary?
2. Make your personal mission statement/s
Based on the priorities you have set, then you
must make a simple goal statement – a decision
or a resolve:
The personal mission as stated must be specific,
concrete, and concise
It must be measurable.
Re-evaluate: Is the mission according to the
will of God?
Proverbs 16:19
The preparations of the heart belong to man, but the
answer of the tongue is from the Lord. A man’s heart
plans his ways, but the Lord directs his steps.
.
3. Based on your Priorities and Mission
Statements, then make a proper
scheduling of your activities
What time does an activity start?
What time must I come?
“When you come on time- then you’re late!”
How long must I stay ?
Be respectful of each other’s time:
If one cannot respect your time,
how can he respect your wisdom?
CONCLUSIONS
•Discipline and order are essentials in our
being disciples of Jesus Christ
•We must always seek the guidance of the
Holy Spirit in setting our priorities and
personal goals in life.
•Respect for one’s time is essential in our
manifestation of love for our neighbor.
•We may have the talent, the charisma, the
gifts and natural abilities, but if we lack
discipline of time, we cannot serve God
effectively.
A Prayer for Discipline of Time
In the Name of the Father ….
Heavenly Father
You are the God of Order
You put everything in its place
And provide a place for everything
We pray to you,O Lord
That we may always be guided
by your Holy Spirit
And attain your gift of discipline of time
As we try to put order in our daily lives
Change us all, dear God,
That we may always have respect
For each other’s time and wisdom
In all our activities, meetings and
gatherings
Help us not fall into the trap
of wasting our time
On the things that don’t really matter
And by having grand and elaborate goals
That are not in accordance
with your most Holy Will
We pray that you bless us
with your guidance
That we may realize the things
that are important to you
So we may do them first and foremost
That you may always be glorified
by the things we do
in their proper time.
In Jesus’ name …. AMEN!
CHANGE MY HEART
Change my heart, o God
Make it ever true
Change my heart, o God
May I be like you.
You are the potter,
I am the clay
Mold me and make me
This is what I pray.
