Dionysus was the Greek god of wine, madness, intoxication, and thrill. He represented chaos and escapism. Dionysus originated as a foreign god who was slowly accepted into the Greek pantheon. He contrasted with the orderly god Apollo, as Dionysus embodied madness while Apollo represented reason.
