Feathered dinosaurs and fossils are the focus of the Dinosaurs Unearthed exhibition at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. Visitors can see life-size feathered dinosaur animatronics and fossils that challenge common understandings of how dinosaurs lived and looked. The exhibition runs through April 2014 and features augmented reality experiences where visitors can watch digital dinosaurs move and make noises. Dinosaurs Unearthed aims to inspire curiosity and capture fascination with dinosaurs during this new era of rapid paleontological discovery.
1. Dinosaurs may be notorious for their sheer size and ferocious reputation, but it’s their feathered side that
are turning heads this fall at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. Life-size feathered dinosaurs and
feathered fossil evidence take center stage at Dinosaurs Unearthed – a captivating exhibition where guests
experience an in-depth look at the feathered dinosaur story. Whether face-to-face with a feathered
Tyrannosaurus rex juvenile or gazing up at a Microraptor fossil, the exhibition is sure to inspire awe and
more than a few surprises.
Dinosaurs Unearthed opened at the Grand Rapids Public Museum in October. Tickets are available
grpm.org, by calling 616.456.3977 or at the Museum’s Front Desk. The exhibition will be at the GRPM
through April 27, 2014.
There are five augmented reality experiences for visitors within the exhibition experience. See a
Yangchuanosaurus, a Tuojiangosaurus (skeleton), and Omeisaurus (skeleton) walk around, growl and
make noise. See Placoolithus Eggs scratch and hatch, and then feed the baby dinosaurs plants or meat.
Make a Microraptor fly, land and make noise. Dinosaurs Unearthed is a comprehensive exhibition that
explores the exciting discovery of feathered dinosaurs and their connection to modern day birds. Through
a dynamic display of feathered animatronic dinosaurs and feathered fossils, guests are asked to challenge
their understanding of how some of their favorite dinosaurs lived and looked during prehistoric times.
Dinosaurs Unearthed is an experience that inspires curiosity in guests and captures the human fascination
with dinosaurs at an exciting time in history. In what is being referred to as the second ‘golden age’ of
dinosaur discovery, paleontologists are uncovering and identifying new species at an unprecedented rate.
These new discoveries are continually challenging common understanding and bringing new information
about the prehistoric past to light.
