If your note is flat, the lines will go to the left, and if you are sharp, they will
go to the right. If your input signal is overdriving the Harmony Machine,

The Harmony Machine's SmartHarmony operates NOTES on singlenotes,so avoid playing chordsor double notesexceptin DETUNE functions. (Or try two notesat once for strangesound effects- who knows what you might come up with ?). Use the Output Mix knob to balance straightand Harmony signals. the GU¡TAR Monophonic,or leadplaying works the best. Try applying different signalprocessing the split Harmony 1,2 and Unshifted Oulputs. to Use a flanger, chorus or other effects device after the Harmony Machinefor somebeautifuleffects. The Harmony Machine re- spondswell to harmonicsand muted strings. Try variousDETUNE settings a lush, non-cyclicaldoubling/chorus. for KEYBOARD Keep your input monophonicexceptfor DETUNE. Unison and open fifth harmoniesare great for soloing and string voices. Use a trumpet or sax patch with Jazzharmony for easy "Big Band" horn stabsand runs. Experimentwith the effectsof pitch-bendand pitch-envelope controlledpatches. An Octaveup harmonymixed into the background addsrealismto singleline string section patches. The DETUNE is gorgeous fatteningup polyphonic for stringsand thin FM patches.DETUNE can enhance realismof the synthpiano patch by simulatingthe inharmonicityof the upper partialsof a piano string. H OR N S Gives you a sectionalsoundüat plays along with your improvisa- tions. Experimentwith different factory presers get a different to feel on the scaleaccidentals.Different factory presetscaleshandle their "voice leading" in different ways. Octavesare nice for doubled soloswhen you alreadyhave a bandplaying densechordsbehind you. votcE Closevoicings without too many high intervalswork best. Vocal soundsand wordlessvocals are fabulous,as are Doo-wop style grooves. Distinct lyrics a¡e bestkept to close, lower harmonies. Ideal for a duo with a lead singerwith the other singerplus Har- mony Machine doing trio back-ups.Try purting exrrareverb and/or echoon the Harmony oulputsonly, to put them into the background behindyou.
