Digital India is a programme launched by the Government of India to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. It has 3 key vision areas: digital infrastructure as a utility to every citizen, governance and services on demand, and digital empowerment of citizens. The programme focuses on 9 pillars including broadband highways, universal access to phones, public internet access, e-governance, e-education, e-healthcare, information for all, electronics manufacturing, and early harvest programmes. The goal is to improve digital infrastructure and connectivity, deliver services digitally, make financial transactions electronic and cashless, and increase digital literacy.
