- The coat of arms of Kenya features two lions, a symbol of protection, holding spears and a traditional East African shield. The shield and spears symbolize unity and defence of freedom. The shield contains the national colors, representing:[1] Black for the people of Kenya Green for the agriculture and natural resources Red for the struggle for freedom White for unity and peace. The middle red strip bears a rooster holding an axe, which according to local customs, denotes a new and prosperous life.
- Nairobi City Center- Nairobi is the largest city in Kenya. It is one of the richest cities in Africa and has a lot of big businesses and money.
- Kiberia, Nairobi- Even though Nairobi is one of the richest cities in Africa just outside the city are slums where people live in houses made of tin with trash filling the streets
- Known as the “cradle of mankind” because they have found so many human-like fossils there. One of the bodies found their was 10 million years old. It is possible the first humans came from this valley Was formed because of earthquakes causing the land to move, pull, and fall apart
- -98% of Kenya’s population is made of tribes. There are more than 70 tribal groups living in Kenya, many of them came from all over Africa -When in the cities people wear western clothes such as jeans and tennis shoes, but when they go back to their villages they must wear their native clothes Maasai- known for being great warriors and cattle-rustlers. They are very traditional. The Massai worship cattle because it is their main source of economic survival as opposed to education. Language- English and Swahili are taught throughout Kenya, but there are 30 other tribal languages spoken in the country
- -Schools in Kenya differ depending on how much money a family has or where they live. Often times students walk 45 minutes to get to school. -Students in the top picture have been abandoned by their parents because they could not take care of them, so they go to a school set up by an organization that helps children on the street Some students go to school outdoors in their villages, while others go to indoor schools For many children who live in villages with their tribe education is not important. It is more important to learn how to herd how cattle or find water
