Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

3. آیا هر میزان از قند خون بالا برود دیابت محسوب میشود؟
• به طور عادی قند بایستی برای استفاده بدن انسان ، در خون وجود داشته باشد تا فرد بتواند از آن استفاده کند ، اما اگر
این میزان قند خون خیلی زیاد بشود)تقریبا بیش از دو برابر حالت عادی( ما میگوییم فرد دارای دیابت می باشد.
4. چرا دیابت میگیریم؟!
• خوب کار نکردن بعضی از سلول هایی که در پانکراس )لوزالمعده( وجود ندارند.

6. چند نوع دیابت داریم؟
•به طور کلی دو نوع دیابت داریم!
1. دیابت نوع یک •
2. دیابت نوع دو •
7. دیابت نوع یک
• این افراد معمولاً از کودکی دچار این بیماری میشوند
• علت آن از بین رفتن سلول های تولید کننده ی انسولین در پانکراس می باشد.
• این افراد معمولا از کودکی مجبور به استفاده از انسولین هستند.
8. دیابت نوع دو
• این بیماران معمولاً از بزرگسالی دچار این بیماری میشوند.
• علت به وجود آمدن آن هم اختلال در کارکردن انسولین بر روی سلول های کبد و ماهیچه و چربی هست!
9. چرا دانش آموزان دارای دیابت داریم؟!
• معمولاً به دو علت هست:
1. افرادی که از کودکی دچار دیابت میشوند که به دلیل اینکه این بیماری به صورت ارثی میباشد این بیماران دچار این •
بیماری می شوند
2. افرادی که به دلیل چاقی زیاد یا مصرف زیاد فستفود ها و شیرینیجات به جای اینکه در بزرگسالی مبتلا شوند در •
هنگامی که دانش آموز هستند دچار دیابت میشوند.
10. دانش آموزان دیابتی دارای چه مشکلاتی هستند؟
• کودکان و نوجوانان دیابتی می توانند همچون سایر دان شآموزان به مدرسه بروند و مانند ایشان تحصیل کنند و به همین دلیل نیز لازم است با دان شآموزان دیابتی مثل سایر
دان شآموزان برخورد شود یعنی به دور از ترحم و با آگاهی درست. اما متأسفانه شاهدیم که دانش آموزان دیابتی دارای مشکلات متعددی هستند از جمله موارد زیر:
1. به کودکان و نوجوانان دیابتی اجازه داده نم یشود که سر کلاس، در صورت بروز هیپوگلیسمی )افت قند خون( و یا قبل از شروع آن، مواد غذایی لازم را میل کنند!
2. برای اغلب کودکان و نوجوانان دیابتی، شرکت در زنگ ورزش یا ممنوع و یا با مشکلات همراه است!
3. اکثر معلمان و مربیان مسئولیت مراقبت از یک دیابتی را حین گرد شهای علمی نمی پذیرند و در نتیجه امکان حضور در گرد شهای علمی برای دیابتی فراهم نم یگردد!
4. اکثر کودکان و نوجوانان دیابتی به دلیل ضرورت کنترل دائمی قند خون، خوردن مواد غذایی و یا تزریق انسولین، مورد توجه قرار دارند و همین امر سببم یشود از سوی
سایرین مورد ریشخند، تحقیر و یا طعنه قرار گیرند!
5. ثبت نام افراد دیابتی در مدارس، به خصوص در مهد کود كها، با مشکلات متعدد رو به روست و اکثر خانواده ها نمی توانند فرزند دیابتی خود را در مدارسی که م یخواهند
ثبت نام کنند!
6. اکثر افراد دیابتی و والدین ایشان، دیابتی بودن را از اولیای مدارسپنهان می کنند به خصوص درمهد کودك ها!
7. و صدها مشکل ریز و درشت که عرصه را بر دیابتی و والدین او تنگ می کند!
11. منشا این مشکلات چه میباشد؟
•بسیاری از این مشکلات ناشی از نداشتن اطلاعات و دانش کافی از سوی معلمان و
شاگردان است و سبب می شود بسیاری از دیابت یها و والدین ایشان احساس کنند که
در مدرسه برخورد خوبی با آنان نمی شود و شاهدیم که افراد دیابتی در مدارس،
منزوی و تنها هستند مگر دیابتی هایی که از آموزش و اعتماد به نفس لازم برخوردار
گردید هاند.
12. چگونه مي توان این مشكلات را حل نمود؟
• از اکثر مشکلاتی که ذکر شد م یتوان پیشگیری نمود به شرط آن که بین خانواده های دیابتی، معلمان و پزشک معالج فرد دیابتی، ارتباط و
همکاری مناسبی وجود داشته باشد که متأسفانه این همکاری وجود ندارد!
• ابتلا به دیابت باعث م یشود فرد دیابتی به دلیل شیوه تغذیه، کنترل قند خون، تزریق انسولین و یا مسایل دیگر، ملزم به رعایت
مواردی باشد که دان شآموزان غیر دیابتی ملزم نیستند. همین تفاوت اگر به گون های صحیح توجیه شود سبب روابط دوستانه متقابل بین
دان شآموزان م یگردد یعنی:
• غیر دیابتی از یک پدیدة جدید آگاهی م ییابد و سطح اطلاعاتش افزایش پیدا م یکند.
• دیابتی نیز از این که وجودش سبب افزایش آگاهی در اطرافیان و دوستان شده است به جای احساس نامطلوب، م یتواند احساس رضایت نماید.
• اما متأسفانه به دلیل ناآگاهی اکثر دان شآموزان، بسیاری از ایشان نم یتوانند برای خود توجیه کنند که چرا یک دیابتی مثلاً مجاز به مصرف مواد
قندی مثل شکلات نیست اما در بعضی موارد باید همین مواد را میل کند!؟ به این ترتیب است که دان شآموزان دیابتی، ابتلای خود را پنهان

13. والدین
• اکثر والدین خود را مسئول ابتلای فرزندشان به دیابت م یدانند و همین ”وجدان دردی“سبب م یشود برای کنترل دیابت
فرزند خود هر کاری را انجام دهند و از اجتماع نیز انتظار دارند که در این راه به ایشان کمک کنند. اما متأسفانه بسیار
شنید ه شده است که عد های از دیابت به عنوان ”تنبیه“یاد می کنند و فشار روانی شدیدی به والدین دیابتی وارد می کنند!
والدین انتظار دارند حداقل معلمان و اولیای مدارس که مسئولیت افزایش آگاهی و دانش شاگردان را بر عهده دارند
نسبت به دیابت دارای اطلاعات بیشتری باشند و دان شآموزان را نیز هدایت نمایند. مدیران مدارس با برگزاری دوره های
علمی- آموزشی، تلاش بیشتری در راستای ارتقای اطلاعات علمی والدین انجام دهند و همین جلسات قطعاً منجر به
همکاری و همدلی بیشتری در فضای آموزشی خواهد شد.
14. معلمان
• ناگفته نماند که در اغلب مدارس، در یک کلاس گاهی تا 45 شاگرد نیز حضور دارند و معلم باید بتواند پاسخگوی تک تک
ایشان باشد، حال با پدیده ای چون دیابت هم باید کنار آید در حالی که خود دیابتی اطلاعاتی دارد که کافی است فرصتی
فراهم آورند تا وی به سایر همکلاسی های خود این اطلاعات را منتقل نماید و همین امر سبب حل مشکلات بسیاری خواهد
شد.
• نباید فکر کنیم که معلمان علاقه ای به داشتن شاگرد دیابتی ندارند، بلکه اگر از آموزش و امکانات لازم برخوردار
باشند چه بسا به وجود دان شآموز دیابتی خود افتخار نیز بکنند.
15. کلام آخر!!!
• دیابت باید جدی گرفته شود.
• با رشد روزافزون آمار مبتلایان به دیابت نوع 1 )که دان شآموزان نیز جزو این گروهند( ضرورت برنامه های آموزشی
دیابت در مدارس، قطعی است.
• انجمن دیابت ایران حدود 15 سال است که در این زمینه با آموزش و پرورش همکاری داشته است و درصورت لزوم نیز
م یتواند این همکاری را گسترش دهد. آموزش مربیان بهداشت مدارس، مدیران و حتی آموزگاران، بدون شک نه تنها
برای افراد دیابتی بلکه برای غیر دیابت ی ها نیز مفید و با نتایج ارزشمندی همراه خواهد بود. آمار دیابتی های موفق در
کنکورها و دوره های آموزش عالی، الگوی رفتاری مطلوبی برای غیر دیابت یهایی است که نسبت به سلامتی خود این
سرمایة اصلی هر موفقیت بی اعتنایند!
